Finished cutting up all the wood into the various lengths needed...and today I managed to put together 36 of the single panel frames. Still have my cloud frames to build...they are going to be much larger...and then I also have the gobo frames to do. The frames were screwed-n-glued...pretty...

I'm not so worried about you guys...I want to finish it while I'm still alive! :D I know it seems like it's taking forever, and what's the holdup...but TBH, I've been working my ass off the last year, it's not like I've had any real down time...always something I need to do....and never any end...

OK...my carpet installation is on hold until after Labor Day...not until that Thursday...:guitar:...so I have a solid 10 days to finish these panels, and then break down some of the bedrooms of all the little stuff, as they will only move the bigger items as part of the installation. I'm going...

And some are pushing a mask "frame" device that sits over your mouth before the mask, in order to keep the mask from being sucked in every time you breathe, since many people have a hard time with them...and the "experts" are already claiming that might make the mask less effective...

Not strange, it's just the natural thing to do. If everyone was just left to their own limited choice/preference, without ever being challenged and introduced to other options... ...they would never know what they are missing. :) That's the thing with a lot of the home rec crowd...they don't...

Yes...end of October makes it 1 year...I think they broke ground like the 3rd-4th of last November. Of course...the pictures in this thread only focus on the actual studio build process...but to be fair, there were other things going on (some still) that were part of a larger, house upgrade...

Yeah...I know about that...and there's better/cheaper stuff. Just use Roman 543 (wallpaper adhesive)...it's the same and costs 1/4 the price of the other stuff...which many people say IS just Roman 543 diluted down a bit and poured into generic cans. There's also a heavy duty Roman 880, which...

Broke out the table saw and the miter saw today and started cutting the wood for the panels. I've got the miter saw on top of the table saw...fits just right. I'll finish cutting the rest...and then switch to the table saw for some ripping, and I'm also thinking of doing a small beveled edge on...

Funny....I too had somewhat of a dislike of SSL consoles...and TBH, I can't even recall where/why/how I developed that feeling....never used one. I think some of it had to do with that whole Neve vs. SSL thing. There was a period where much of the stuff was being done on one or the other...and...

    Thought experiment

Oh I'm living in that reality right now. As I filled up my new studio...the room just got better and better sounding, compared to how it was empty. So as I started to plan out the acoustic treatment, one aspect I've been very aware of is that I did not want to over-stuff it with treatment, and...

OK...but you're just addressing the recorder aspect. I was talking about free a roomful of great analog hardware too. I mean...two sets of buildings...keys to each, all yours, both equally great studio rooms....one full of the best analog gear, the other a Pro Tools rig on a desk. ;) And...

    Thought experiment

You can...but in the typical home rec world...complete "soundproofing" is a very difficult and costly undertaking, mu more than the acoustic treatments, which themselves can be costly. Sound transmission reduction can be had, at different levels, depending what you have to work with and how...

After seven years of DAW, I will NEVER abandon tape again.

I'm at a disadvantage at this time (well, for the last year now), in that my olds studio is gone, and all the gear is just piled up in the new studio, yet to be set up and all kinds of other work to be done...so doing any critical listening is on hold, and will be for some time. I don't want to...

    Thought experiment

Yes...and it's something I've noted a few times in recent months in these studio treatment discussions..."soundproofing" gets too mixed up with actual acoustic treatment for room sound quality. Not picking you, spantini... :) ...just my own thought stuff. Guys seem to always ask about...

Of course it is...and that's my point...some people develop their preferences entirely based on their budgets, and not on actual comparisons and usage of a wide variety of audio gear. Analog recording certainly is not for everyone...besides cost, it has other demands in a few areas...many which...

    Tascam m520 & teac 85-16

You're just guessing with the meters....which is why your meters are not reflecting the correct levels. There's an actual process to calibrating tape deck levels...and you need a tone generator that can provide known, calibrated levels and specific frequencies...not to mention, you will also...

I think that even saying a choice is purely a matter of preference, implies that for the person making the choice, there is a consideration of what is "better". You don't need to run scientific analysis and double-blind studies for everything in order to come to some conclusion of what is better...

Naa...I let them shine through in all their glory. :) The stain color I'm going to be using and the color of the knots, blends well enough. I'm not looking for "furniture grade" finish perfection. The mega bass traps I built a couple of year back also had knots...same basic wood quality...and...

That's my feeling as well. I know I've been kinda talking pro analog here...but not from the perspective that analog is 100% better. There are good and bad points with both...so my feeling is to tap into the good of both...go hybrid. What I get a little bugged about, is when people try to say...
