Debating on selling my Tascam 388 and I'm torn...

Those are other considerations...but not everything with audio recording decisions comes down to just size of machines or cost of tape. Like I said...it starts with your intent and your big picture plans....so if you are after a certain level of involvement and audio quality, the size and cost...

No...I'm not confused...you have a hard time explaining what you are doing so that it's clear to everyone. I still don't know how you keep talking about the cassette and 384/96 kHz...as though they are all involved together...because you kept saying "the 384 and 96 coming off the tape"...

OK...then what is the 384kHz and 192kHz part...? Are you saying you recorded the audio to the cassette....and then transferred to digital at 384 and 192...and THAT is what you are comparing....? Or....are you saying you recorded direct to digital at both 384 and 192...and then transferred that...

Yeah...that's what the other 20 people posting in this thread think. I'm curious about one thing...why are you transferring 384kHz and 192kHz digital audio...to a dinky cassette tape deck...and THEN comparing the tracks...???

I don't disagree....but I'm leaning with Jimmy...this could be fun...maybe let it run until it turns into a dumpster fire. :p

Naa...the guy you found can spell and construct coherent sentences. :D :laughings: Well then...judging by your music samples...you're going to be a rich man any day now...soon...no really, the check is in the mail. How..???...because 768 is twice 384?

Well...it's not like you're comparing apples to apples here....deck for deck. mixer for mixer. Sure you would need a mixer of similar quality/grade, and yes, it uses 1" tape for 16 tracks instead of 1/4" tape for 8...but you end up with a much more impressive, better format setup. It's not like...

Here you go...something like this will be a serious upgrade from a 388...and it's selling for $2.5k: Otari MX-70 Professional Tape Recorder (1989) reel to reel recorder NICE | eBay I've looked at that listing a few times...and considering it's not super far from me, it would be a great buy...

I paid like $2200 for my Otari MX80, with a lot of extras that came with it. OK, it was several years ago, but if you look hard enough, you can still find something like that even today...with maybe another few hundred added on top. Yes...you're going to have to wait and look, and wait and...

Wow......you're talking about "detail of the instruments"...but you don't notice how out of tune everything is, and the overload distortion that is so obvious in your audio clips. soundcloud.com/ryankm Now you definitely remind me of a troll we had here not too long ago...he would...

Trolling doesn't always need to include uncivilized discussion...to be trolling. The mods can do what they think is best...and I think everyone else should just stop trying to convince the OP that he is wrong. Let him believe what he wants...the problem will be his.

It's not so much a question of banning anyone...but this is either intentional trolling or very confused BS...neither of which falls under the "free speech" umbrella, IMO, when it's continual. Any time there is a person who comes here to ask questions...and then proceeds to reject all answers...

Sounds nice...though in my case, I've gone in the opposite direction and expanded the size of my house substantially, and have no plans to downsize and/or move into something smaller when I get older like most seniors do. I don't think I could handle a condo or apartment situation...been living...

That's my point...it doesn't cost anything to keep it...but having to buy it back or something similar will probably cost more later than whatever you sell it for now...and you end up getting something that belongedo someone else, so you don't know how well it was handled, etc. If it's a...

For me...it's more about the overall usage value of a piece, and where does it or could it fit into the big picture...and not just because something has been sitting unused past a certain deadline. That's why I ask...what is the long-term goal, what is the big picture...?...because if you see...

They could use a cleaning. :) I don't see anything bad...but it's really just one angle, straight on...so you would want to inspect them from all sides. Also...apart from really obvious visible issues...if you're hearing any problems or have real concerns, the best thing is to have them...

OK...so you're saying the mental block has to do with using the analog tape gear...but you're not experiencing that with DAW use or all recording in general, now and into the future...? If that is so...then clear out the stuff gathering dust...it will probably feel liberating once you cut those...

I know what "ips" refers to...I work with tape regularly...but to date, I have never heard of any tape recorders using 9 inches per second for audio purposes...and if indeed there is some cassette tape deck that runs at that speed...I find it hilarious that you can talk about "high quality...
