Open Discussion - Consumer gear vs. Pro gear

That's not the discussion here though...and it kinda always ends up going back to that, "If I like it, nothing else matters"...which is really only one perspective. The underlying point of the discussions about the differences between pro and consumer gear...or let's not just keep saying...

    PSA for Sweetbeats/Cory

UPDATE Sent Cory an email two days ago...and I was getting concerned there was no response, but figured he had more important considerations....and then he replied late last night. They are OK and waiting for the air quality to improve...expecting to return to their home tomorrow, which was...

Open Discussion - Consumer gear vs. Pro gear

I see you also went for some of the new Klark-Tekink gear. I have picked up a pair of each of their comps and the EQs...but that was over a year ago...and then I was dealing with my mother's health and her passing...and then I started the new studio planning and subsequent construction...

    Studio Build Documentation

After my major carpet install last week, I was blown out from moving all that stuff out of those rooms, that I could get motivated for a couple of days to do anything too physical...but then I knew that the weather was going to be OK for a few days this past week, so besides doing some planting...

Open Discussion - Consumer gear vs. Pro gear

I'll just add this quickly before I go do my work... I've heard some of your recordings...and I don't deny that you get very good quality out of your productions. I'm not suggesting that because you're using the 388...that your stuff doesn't sound good. Now...just imagine if you had full use...

Open Discussion - Consumer gear vs. Pro gear

I think that question has come up before...if anyone has done that, and I think there were maybe 1-2 experiments like that, but they were more about comparing an analog pro rig to a digital rig...not specifically what you call consumer gear to pro digital gear. I don't want to speculate on...

Open Discussion - Consumer gear vs. Pro gear

Never said I was using all state of the art...or that home rec people need to chase after it....just saying that audio gear isn't some magical thing that changes dramatically based on how skilled you get. It will reach that threshold, that you noted...and then no further....so if you want to go...

Open Discussion - Consumer gear vs. Pro gear

One thing I do agree on...that "Nebraska" often used as an example of a "great" recording on a 4-track cassette, is funny...because you're right, it doesn't *sound* all that good at all. Critics focused on the song content, not the sound quality...which are two different things. You're kinda...

    PSA for Sweetbeats/Cory

Spoke with Cory a couple of days ago via email...he was forced to evacuate his home with his family due to the Oregon fires. At that time, his house was not in imminent danger, but the fires were getting closer, so it was a precautionary evac as I understood him...but I'm not sure how things are...

Open Discussion - Consumer gear vs. Pro gear

Well...if you're hearing them stress recording quality a lot on home rec sites...then maybe it matters enough. ;) AFA a pro getting *better* results than you or me using the same equipment, I'm sure that's more to do with their WIDE experience than all of us put together...rather than that...

Open Discussion - Consumer gear vs. Pro gear

Right. I always hate it when on home rec forums someone runs out of argument about audio quality...and resorts to saying, "It's only home recording" or some such thing...as though home recording goals and expectations should only aim so high, and also that the gear only needs to meet some lower...

I'm outside right now applying polyurethane to my acoustic panel frames......almost done...and while working, this thought came to mind, so I wanted to post it, but then I'll be gone for awhile, back to my work. :D I agree that odds are that the average person would not pick...

Aww man...that totally sucks to have your personal things wiped out like that. :( I don't know what is worse...fire or flood...but in either case, it's hard to look at the aftermath, and see your world destroyed.

Open Discussion - Consumer gear vs. Pro gear

Did you want to send me a check...or just PayPal me? :) I know you want to believe that a lot of stuff doesn't matter, and you would be right in some cases...but to suggest that "IF" people can't tell 10-out-of-10 times whether something was done on consumer gear VS. pro gear...that it somehow...

Open Discussion - Consumer gear vs. Pro gear

I wanted to bring this discussion to a new thread, rather than where it was started, so as not to mess up the topic in the other thread. Dive in...let's kick it around here...this was the original comment.

My First "Home Recording" 43 years old

That's cool stuff....being able to step back in time and "you're there" again...hearing it the same way as the day you recorded it. I've got my own stash of band tapes and early recording from way back...I just held on to that stuff, even though I never planned to do anything with it...it...

Debating on selling my Tascam 388 and I'm torn...

Never jumped on the 87 craze...even have a studio buddy who is shutting down/selling off trying to get me to take his 87 for a decent price, but I'm not interested. Now...if you're talking about some of their classic tube mics...that's another story, but then for the price of one of them, you...

Debating on selling my Tascam 388 and I'm torn...

:laughings: Yeah...for sure. I have fond memories of my old 4-track, and those "fun" days of early recording...but I would never go back to that. Back then, I didn't know...what I didn't know. Now...I'm starting to forget a lot of the stuff I use to know! :p
