    What's the WORST thing...

Mostly lost songs due to system crashes. One of those things that I can only blame myself for. I never vow to backup until after I lost hours of recording. It's sort of like buying new wiper blades on a sunny day. I never think of the value of backing up until I loose it all.

    Running an amp at Max??

I'm a little confused. I run my signal into my computer from the board itself via Tape out or channel "inserts". My amp powers my monitors only. All my levels are controlled at the mixer, technically I can shut the amp/monitors clean off and still have a strong and clear signal into my computer.

    drum machines, your opinion please...

I use an Alesis SR-16 and I love it. Cut and dry drums and perc sounds. Gives one the option of selecting a gang of different "sets" or recording "environments". I had a Boss Dr Rythem and it drove me nuts. It had bass lines, keyboard sounds... too much fluff not enough Drum. Alesis SR-16...

    How often do you practice?

I can't practise, only play. I took way too many years of theory, so when I "practise" and do the whole follow the rule thing I get pissy or disappointed at the methodical structure. So I play play play. Sometimes a few hours, sometimes a few minutes. One thing I do to "practise" is scroll...

Members average number of rack units and a list...

I don't know about you, but an SR-16 is NOT rackmountable! You might be able to put it on some shelf or something. Hell, if we all start to add our drumcomputers and direct recording tools, the shit hits the fan... Boss DR670 Digitech Genesis 3 So am I knit-picking for listing it? or...

    Another Newbie....

Gear wise you should consider a solid soundcard like the delta 1010 that offers multiple in's and out's. Carpet crawling sucks. A small mixer is a plus, I use the carvin SM162. Lets me plug in 16 channels and route to my hearts content Software: Cooledit pro is user friendly and excellent to...

What musicians should know before take their first recording session...

Same with construction or repair..... count on it taking twice as long and costing twice as much. Don't set up the studio session thinking you are going to make the 8:00 blowning fest after. Leave the whole day for the studio. Be receptive to the engineers advice. His/her suggestions are...

i need a sound card for me computer?

Guitar center is doing their overstocked sale. You can score an Emagic audiwerk2 for a mere $50.00 And for what its worth, you will NOT use the mic input on your soundcard, you WILL use the line in. The mic input is for that $4 plastic piece of shit mic that came with your computer. The mic...

Your tips for getting rid of hum and hiss from amps

Grounding has come up a few times, obviously it is huge. With that in mind, do not plug all your gear into a circuit that has ANYTHING else in it. Have a seperate, high amp breaker for the gear. Install a new, independant breaker in your electrical box exclusively for your rack. Good preamp...

    Why is metal dead?

No form of music is ever dead. Perhaps they dont shake the comercial corporate giant or stir social frenzies in the same way, but every single style that ever was, is at least cast into history and will preserve a following. Big band and swing are not exactly in their hayday, but still it lives...

    Mixer

I have to agree, 16 channels is pretty much a staple. When you consider that the additional cost for a 16 channel board is maybe $100 more than a small 4-6 channel board it just makes financial sence (as opposed to buying a second or new machine in 6 months). Add in the fact that sometimes you...
