It doesn't sound like a bad edit to me. It's more like they muted the echo return at the end of that phrase, either by choice or perhaps to work around some leak they couldn't get rid of any other way. A flawed edit would either jump or lag in time and/or exhibit some kind of noise at the cut...

See what happens if you encase an amp in 1 inch mesh chicken wire. If the sound persists, it isn't RF.

You will not improve the performance of that machine by adding a signal processor to the signal chain. 15ips gives you better frequency response, less hiss, more headroom, & and less wow & flutter. The "famous" analog head bump is not worth going after, IMHO. Those who wax poetically about...

I'm not convinced that setting your machine up for extreme elevated levels will gain much in the way of performance, especially if you intend to use dbx I NR. Regardless, 3db hotter than 250nWb/meter is as high as I'd attempt. You changed your cards but not your heads and they might not...

The manuals for these units should have install instructions. Don't go in without info unless you are very resourceful if something goes awry.

How big a deal is it to remove the meter bridge from the system to see if the problem is caused by the bridge or is in the console itself?

Does it behave like this on all outputs, including headphones?

Your master fader and/or the insert points for the L/R busses may be dirty. With the board off, burnish the insert points with by plugging a trs connector in & out a few times. Exercise the L/R fader as well to loosen up any crud that may be there. Spraying them with contact cleaner may also...
