    My vocal booth

Well, thank you for the compliment. I'm still unsure how well it will work but I guess we're going to find out. Yeah, dryer exhaust stuff is one type of flexible duct. They've got several types at Lowe's/Home Depot. The stuff I think we want is insulated on the inside. They've got it in...

Wow, they are eerily similiar. Your picture is better though ;) Yep same cans but the mic in my picture is a Rode NT1000. As far as a hanger goes, I'm going to build a copy stand eventually and I'm thinking I'll make a hook for them on there. Thanks for the compliment on the booth.

    My vocal booth

Steve, those are my thoughts exactly. I must not have done a good job of describing it. Perhaps drawings of what I'm planning would be better. Does this make sense?

condensed fiberglass info/where to buy thread

AH! I was looking for this thread the other day to give to somebody but couldn't remember which website it was on for the life of me. Thanks for the bump.

Beginner Help: Studio in Middle of the House

Well, it takes mass. If it was me, I would think about it. But, having re-read your original post I see it would be a bit of an undertaking to deal with the floor and the ceiling. And there's no point in beefing up the walls if you can't do those as well. Isolation is only as strong as the...

Ventilation plans Okay, so here's what I'm thinking about for the ventilation. I've copied this from another bulletin board so some of it may be a repeat of stuff earlier in this thread: My knowledge here is VERY limited so I'm still playing with it as I learn more. I'm building two baffles...

Beginner Help: Studio in Middle of the House

For some reason, I can't stop thinking about this even though I have work I need to be doing. What's the best use of the closet? Storage. Not to be a smart alec about it, but it's only 2 feet wide. By the time you add acoustical treatments it gets very tiny in there. I don't think you'll...

Beginner Help: Studio in Middle of the House

Yeah every sticky on John's site, lol. It's a lot to deal with I know. I'm also taking several people's reccomendation and buying Rod Gervais's book soon.

Beginner Help: Studio in Middle of the House

Somebody more knowledgeble will have to answer the others. Carpet tends to absorb high and some mid frequencies but not lows and that screws with your room obviously. From what I've read, and think I understand, it would be better to have a reflective floor (like wood) and treat the walls and...

mic stand from ceiling or wall

I've been having this debate with myself too. If you look at my VO booth thread you'll see the tight quarters I'm dealing with. For now, I've got my mic on a round base stand, no boom and it's working okay. I may put the boom on there and play with it though to see what happens. You...

Beginner Help: Studio in Middle of the House

Yeah, what Bill said with the desk. For your purposes I would not put my type of booth in your room though. It really screws up the balance of the room and that's something I'm struggling with for my mixing area now, but for me as a voiceover type the booth was more important so it took...

    Build This Workstation For $80

I really like what you've done. It's got my creative juices flowing. Thanks for posting it.

I too would probably go with a wood floor. I disagree on the console placement though. I'd put it out from one of the short walls. You want the speakers to run the length of the room. I'm no expert, I just read a lot so take it with a grain of salt.

Have you looked at John Sayer's plans? You'd have to play with it some because of your doors (and that closet) but I'd say that's a darn good place to start from.

mic stand from ceiling or wall

Something like this with the wall mount accessory could work. I'm not sure about mounting it on the ceiling, but I suppose it's possible. http://www.bswusa.com/proditem.asp?item=14194B

    My vocal booth

I'd be happy to post photos as I go. And, an honest evaluation of how well it works, or doesn't work when it's finished. EDIT: Looking at my booth, I neglected to mention in my original post that I still need to work on the door threshold area as well. It still needs a good seal. I was...

    My vocal booth

Thanks Bill. I've been producing commercials, promos, liners etc for radio for a long time now. Started to branch out into others areas and decided it was time to quit moonlighting in the radio station's production room. I'm loosely basing my ventilation off what I have seen on the prebuilt...

    My vocal booth

Some of you have been curious how my attempt at a VO booth build has been going. I'm very happy to say it's finally nearing completion and in workable order. My goals were to create a very dead space for my voice over work and achieve a decent degree of isolation. Enough so that the standard...

What to do with extra Auralex?

Now that sounds great and I just happen to have a few 1 x 6's laying out in the shed. Thanks Steve!
