What was the question again? Oh wait... I know this one: 42?

    Dorm room

Thanks, wish I could take credit for it. It's actually something Douglas Spotted Eagle came up with, and then Harlan Hogan and Jeffrey Fisher wrote about it in a book I read. So I built one. It tames reflections around the mic pretty well. Between it, my notebook, mic, and firebox I've got a...

    vocal booth plans and construction

Yep, if you look in my thread I've drawn up plans for both. But it's pretty outside and I've only been in my booth a few minutes at time so far... so construction has been pushed to the backburner.

    vocal booth plans and construction

The ones in my bathrooms are really noisy too, but they don't look like the picture he posted. At one of my radio stations transmitter sites I found an old belt driven squirrel cage type fan that's almost 2 feet across. I'm trying to figure out if I could rig that up to my booth.

    Dorm room

Voice Over. Yes, the closet should work fine for absorbtion and maybe even diminish the sounds of your neighbors some if you're lucky. I just hope it's bigger than the closet I had in the dorm. Is there a light in there? Go to Bed Bath and Beyond or Linen's and things and get one of those...

Does that mean it's a good thing if they sound like sh!& ?

officeRecording - what would U do?

1st thing: Nice office! How does it sound now? Seems to me a space that big won't need too much for recording your friend. Can you put curtains up on the windows? Gobos seem like a good idea to me.

    Newbies,listen up!

:D I'd love the opportunity to stand in one for a little while though just to experience it. I've seen some of the pics floating around and WOW. They are a work of art all in their own class.

    My vocal booth

Thank you. It's coming along rather nicely. I should probably finish it up, but I'm having way too much fun recording in it right now.

    Newbies,listen up!

Here, let me fix that for you. NO pro studio has complete isolation.

Bill: That door stop is a pretty good idea. Thanks. Rick: that's very cool. Thanks for posting the link. I've thought about using case fans, the good ones are really quiet, but I'm wondering if they can push/pull enough air to be effective on something as large as my booth. I'll give the...

    My vocal booth

Well it's been an ass kicker of a day today. 10pm at night and I'm just finishing up the day job. I had planned to work some more on the booth this weekend but I suspect my "honey do" list will have to take priority, especially since I didn't get to start on it tonight.

cheap, crude, effective pc silence/cooling mods

neat mod. Thanks for sharing. But I gotta ask: What did you use to open up your case in the back? A ball peen hammer?

    My vocal booth

Sonic. Thanks for the compliment. It is cozy, in a good way for me I think. Yeah, I've thought about the door closer and it's an option I'm considering. First, I want to beef up the seals and make a better threshold. I should probably post the details of my door too (it's not ideal)...

Beginner Help: Studio in Middle of the House

Cool. I see you've been studying. Read up on first reflection points. I see you've got treatment on the right side of the room but not the left. That's going to cause some issues. You might consider building a "plug" and putting it in the window so you can even out the balance. For a...

    My vocal booth

That "wisp" thing has me concerned too. I'm hoping a larger fan on a slower speed combined with the correct vent cover thing (register I guess?) will minimize that. Seems like the trick there is to keep your air velocity pretty low. <shudder> Okay, don't make me cry. I agree. I'm glad I...

    My vocal booth

I like your thoughts there, especially the interior lip and hinge/wingnut ideas. The combination of those might work nicely. I think you'd have to sand it all pretty good to make sure you have nice flat surfaces before you put the gasket on though. This is more about trying to isolate the fan...

    Building Lesson #1

God. I bought a case to start with. When that ran out I thought "Surely we won't need another case." So we bought maybe 6 tubes... then 6 more... then 4....then 2.... and I've gone back several times for just one. Heh. I should have bought the 2nd case. Bill, I don't know who said that but...
