I like odd time signatures. I'm working on one in 11. LOL!!!

I generally write instrumental pieces to perform a specific function in a collection of songs. A bridge between songs to set up tempo or key, or the introduction of a theme, etc. I think I've only written one or two standalone instrumentals.

I have a drum kit, but no studio to set up mics and record. If I did set it up, the quality would be subpar. SD is an acceptable alternative, if I want to record rock music.

It's a much simpler affair now. Using Superior Drummer. :drunk:

What a cool thread. I'll throw a +1 out there too. Sometimes you're working on a track for a client and it must be finished. But for my own purposes, there isn't a deadline - ever. Sometimes I'll have a song that kind of works, but I don't have the puzzle piece I need to make it really click. So...

In a room that small, you really can't have too many bass traps. But if you're not recording drums or live instruments it will be a little easier.

Wow. Good stuff, IBB. It's like Mary's Danish and Sabbath. I like the guitars in particular. It would nice to hear double tracking on the choruses, especially those without the lead guitars after the first solo section. The level of polish suits the band and the performance- there's nothing...

Supersonic half-stack in blonde tolex, JC-120, Distressor, and at least one other thing I am forgetting. Before I put these up on the local craigslist or eBay I wanted to give HR folks an opportunity. Please make reasonable offers, I am not desperate or fleeing the country. -SC

As you add more instruments, the things you need to do to make a mix work will sort of present themselves. Until you add more instrumentation, all you can do is speculate. :)

The drums are too quiet. The dueling lead guitars sound random and are not supporting your vocal. I would start with the drums and add a bassline that adds heft and counterpoint to whatever melodic structure you want to deliver. Then add vocals. Then add guitar lines that complement...

I think the piano is fine where it is. It is carrying a 16th note melody that works well against the bass lines. It is well balanced with the lead guitars. Overall I like the arrangement, too. Nice work. Check the vocal melodies on the "thank you jesus" lines. Some wobbly pitch there.

Yep, that's a guitar all right.

I can't really detect bass guitar. I mean, the frequencies are there, but I don't hear a line. I am not sure that the lead guitar leaves much room for countermelody. Nice leads tho.
