    Newbie drummer needs help

OTOH, a Drum Dial was essential in my diagnosing a bad bearing edge on my 12" tom, and tremendously accellerated my ability to tune by ear. The Dial will bail you out when you've screwed up so bad the drum is just a mass of discordant overtones. A drum certainly can be tuned with different...

    Bridge saddle screws?

Just take another one out, and head to the hardware store. Alternative: email Fender, and they'll probably mail you a few to make you go away.

    Tuning pegs

I know I'm a little out of step here, but with locking tuners, I can use less than a half turn of string to tune, while any conventional tuner is 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 or so turns. I do find that with locking tuners and a pivot-style bridge that can drop the strings slack, I have better luck, all...

Feeling rather down ... my daughter toppled my Les Paul, and sheered off headstock

Just rub some talcum powder on it, it'll be fine.

    Coated or Clear...what's your preference?

I like coated Ambassadors on my kit. This is mostly because the kit is Indigo Blue, and the near-featureless, unlined frosty white tops look fantastic. It is also because they wear vividly, which shows off my accuracy with nice, tight, centered patterns. They sound good as well, which is a plus. :D

A new type of tube guitar amplifier

So are Line6, noiseless single coils, Gibson's Robot Guitar, graphite necks, and a lot of other things guitar players hate. It seems like a fantastic hifi amp, with the output tube distortion feature added on. I have no idea if that will translate to good tone.

    Recommended drum heads

I have coated Emps over Ambs, with a PS3 and a coated SC logo head on the bass, same sizes plus a 16 and an 8. We took the kit to the studio over a first-generation GMS kit.

    Les Paul with maple neck?

You talking maple neck, or maple fretboard? The 70's customs commonly had maple necks, the boards were rare. Ebony is generally brighter than maple, so I don't think a maple-boarded Custom would be terribly bright sounding. Maple is a nasal bright, rather than piercing, to my ear. More maple...

    Cutting graphtec nuts?

Just get a copper or steel brush. The hardware store will have big ones specifically for cleaning files, but you can get a little toothbrush-sized one.

    Get In On This Deal!

I've only tried it on my Gibson GA5 so far, and I'm a little underwhelmed. It sounds OK on a few settings, but nothing so far that I could use in a bypass->active->Nuclear continuum. It's sort of sluggish in the lows, and there is no knob to control it. The treble knob has a good range, but very...
