    [Pop/Rock] Questions about Demo-CD

I think some drum variations would help, but I would try to incorporate more harmonies along with the main melody during the chorus. Also, (maybe something to play around with) try writing a more defined piano part of the chorus. Something that really pushes the down beat. Hope those ideas...

2 Songs for review. I love you all.

Thanks very much! The tempo changes were a beast to track the drums to, so I hear you there. The violin was tracked using a combo of two mics, a pick-up, and my friend Meredith - extraordinary player. I used an MXL 990 about two feet behind her aimed at the back of her head, and an MXL 603s...

New song, need feedback in all areas!

The kick sounds overcompressed, but i will say it is cutting through. The guitar panned left drops out around 1:01. It's distracting Great guitar work though.

2 Songs for review. I love you all.

Hey everyone. I have two songs I recorded with a group and I'd love some feedback. http://www.soundclick.com/thebakerystudios The first is called "Darling" It's been through a few mixes, but could use a lot of improvement. This was one of the first few times I tracked drums at my place...

    Logic pro

What sound is coming from you speakers? Explain it. What are you recording through, i.e., what are you plugging your microphone/guitar/keyboard into. Ultrabeat is a software instrument. This means you will have to load a software instrument track in your arrange window. Click the little...

    Logic pro

Yes. You'll want to start with Ultrabeat which comes with Logic. There's a whole chapter about it in the second biggest user manual (instruments and effects). Have fun!

Looking for a cheap all rounder

While I agree with you outright, I still think that the 990 is a viable option. It will save money, and can be useful for a lot of applications. In the past I've used a 990 on vocals, guitars, and drum overheads. With vocals, you'll get a pretty full sound (for the price at least), but I...

Looking for a cheap all rounder

MXL 990. It's cheap and effective. Condenser mic that handles decently high SPLs. Requires phantom power (as do all condensers) so make sure your board/recording interface has phantom power. Look for deals on the internet. I bought a couple last year for $80 total. Deals are out there...

How do i get hip hop crowd effect?

Yea, get a few other people to do it, either together, separately, or both (some takes alone, some with the group...) Group all your takes and send them out to a nice reverb. Play around with nudging a few takes forward or back a few miliseconds... Basically follow everything everyone has...

    Mic'ing Guitar cab

Sorry man, I've never run into this problem :( I am not sure of your set-up, but did the sound board the 57 was going into have its gain on that channel too hot or was that all the way down too?

    Working with sound levels

this isnt the best answer. i am telling you that right now. After you bounce your project, load that file into new, blank project. If you want it louder, slap the adaptive limiter plug-in on your ouput track. You'll sort of kill the dynamics of the mix, but it will make your track louder.

Help: Recording System Needed To Make *real* Album

I think Springsteen's Nebraska was recorded on a four-track cassette machine. If I remember correctly, he recorded it with his engineer buddy in his living room simply for reference in the studio. After going to the studio he realized that the four-track recordings in the living room were the...

    Triggering samples with audio files

All right. This is a very "basic" (albeit tedious) way to trigger your own sample using the EXS24 sampler: 1. Choose the track you want to "replace", for example, a kick or snare track. (one at a time though) 2. Underneath that track (in the arrange window) create a software instrument track...
