original song, please critique my mix

Levels are fine, and the frequency spectrum is about right (I'd like a bit more bottom on the guitar, though). Something to explore more might be space. I'm using a blend reverb plus a space reverb on my vocal + guitar stuff these days. Even though I'm going for a relatively dry sound (I want...

Just for the hell of it Misfits cover- Where Eagles Dare

If, instead of putting a pause between the first and second line of the refrain (I ain't no goddamn sonuvabitch - you better think about it baby), you just joined them up without a pause between, you'd get the second part to scan better and drive the rhythm better. The rest of it is respectable...

    Border of Love

Tjarko. He's cunning, eh? It's cooked into the vocal track - I recorded it with the vocal mic.

2.5KHz - good call. It was the whole shelf in fact. Pulled it down. Cheers.

    Border of Love

The audible click was jj cale inspired for the recording part. The song was written before that. Our stuff moves similarly sometimes though, so it was easy to experiment with.

    Border of Love

I've got a bongo part (I like doing them mid-side nowadays - I don't get enough pop out of the heads when I record, so mid-side makes them bigger another way). I love recording bongos, cuz you get to hit things. AnywY, I'm holding it in reserve in case the arrangement needs a push, but at this...

    Border of Love

While waiting for the previous tune to get redone, I thought I'd post a new one. I've mixed it to where it is now, and I'm wondering how levels and frequency balance strike your ears, and what you're listening through. I did the front man stuff and Tjarko did the rest.

Lee Shore CSN cover (Final mix/master))

Never heard this one before. Thanks for introducing it. I listened to the original. I wanted it to stay in that gentle latin groove they started up at the beginning, but they got sort of intense with it by the end. You don't do that, you maintain the groove throughout - sort of nudged toward...

    No Escape

Listened through monitors - it just sounds better through bigger speakers. There's nothing I'd tweak. You feel the same or are you unsure?

    No Escape

Sounds about right through earbuds. (I'll listen through the big guys later.) Why '25 years too late'?

    Need more Time

Faultless. I'd be dancing to this too much to tweak knobs and click shit.

Punk gone acoustic - Original Tune (Everyone is Getting Older)

Tight bv harmonies and good separation with the front vocal. Good playing, good work.

    Far Away - remastered

It's not a fair comparison - the master's so much better. But it's a great mix of a great performance of a great tune.

Life is so weird sometimes. I put together a vocal years ago and sent it to my buddy Tjarko and he made it into a song. Years later, he decides to redo it. So I re-wrote most of the lyrics and re-did the vocal. It's better now. Whatcha think? https://on.soundcloud.com/MLPAdsdmRwd6kSxn8 Tjarko...

My 13 yo daughter wrote an original tune “Reaching for the Moon” - check it out yo

Yes, exactly. Musically mature for someone just into their teens. Good tune, ace delivery, great hook. Five stars out of the gate, kid. If your dad behaves, let him play on more of your tunes lol.

    intoxicated

Maybe it's the double tracking you mentioned, but the sound of the vocal is tricksy to my ears and makes me want to hear it as it was sung.

Pixie the Brave: the epic saga of when our cat chased away a fox from our front porch (instrumental & doorbell cam photo included!)

Nice tuneage. Pixie's a monster. I think overlapping frequencies are disappearing things a bit, especially when the 2.03 solo starts.

Manslick - There was a dude

Listened on the big speakers. Vocal @ 1.18 and onward needs to be more distinct, upfront, separate, I think. It's getting lost a bit.

Manslick - There was a dude

A year ago, I switched softwares and recording approach and camera and more. I haven't put anything out for over a year because I'm slow to get on top of new tech. It's a pain in the hole. Take your time.

Manslick - There was a dude

Why? It sounds really close to done. If you tweak the vocal, tweak it down a dB. Understandable, yes. No. It's great. They're fine. Yup. I'm listening on an effing ipad, and the bass is fine. Look, I understand that you're obsessing over the mix - that's your job, and that happens...
