Theory Question - What's this chord?

Just thinking - it would probably work on an open Am with the moving note on the G string. Daf

Theory Question - What's this chord?

In piano land, the A would stay in the bass, and the high note, or one of the inside notes, would move from A to G# to G. The progression you're describing, with the moving bass, would be notated Am - Am(maj7)/G# - Am7/G. Or Am Am/G# Am/G. It's a pretty standard progression - I bet it will...

Your Very First - Let's See It!

There's a recording - it's pretty sucky. Pair of TX-7's (module equivalent of a DX-7) and an RX-11 drum machine into a Hitachi consumer grade tape deck. Plus my so-called voice through an AT knock off of a 58. Crappy FM string bass is super heavy, probably due to the medium. On the solo, I...

Your Very First - Let's See It!

Y'all probably know I've written a couple of love songs for my wife. Check HERE for the current version of the latest one - it's Jagular singing, not me. Second song on the page, "Beautiful Still". Here's the first song I ever wrote for her, ca. 1988 - a little different. There IS a...

    Recording in ACID Pro 4.0

Guess I never looked at that dropdown - lots of mono choices. Wow, I can be a real dipshit sometimes... :D Daf

    Jamfest Equipment List

Left ear is non-functional, ongoing vertigo. Loud noises are painful. I'm seeing an internist, a neurologist, a neurosurgeon, an audiologist, and an ENT guy (who doubles as a plastic surgeon - first meeting, he checked my ear, then said, "you know, we could fix that crooked nose for you..."...

    Recording in ACID Pro 4.0

The only choice it offers me (project properties tab, invoked from the record dialog) is between stereo and 5.1 surround. Acid 4 Pro. Maybe it's a sound card driver thing? I'm using M-Audio Delta 66... Daf

    Recording in ACID Pro 4.0

Or did you record the vocals in stereo? If you only used one mic, it'll place them on which ever side the input you used is connected to. Acid won't record in mono. Why? I dunno, but I have a workaround: What I do - I take the track on which I recorded the vocals, click on "Edit on Sound...

    Jamfest Equipment List

Voxxy won't be there, so I guess we need a source for the drums. If my health allows, I'll be there with my QS-8, and either the prophet or the k-station. Maybe I should bring the RX-11 too? Daf

"In memory of" acoustic rock with strings

This is excellent!!! Not much I'd think about changing - nicely arranged - lots of space, some interesting dynamics. I'd take another look at the modulation at 3:16ish - it's a little weak. maybe a climbing violin line at the same time that reinforces the change? Or a rhythm part or...

Tape saturation in the digital domain?

Sony Oxford is reputed to give you tape-style saturation when you push your level past zero - without digital distortion. Quite a trick, if true. Suppoosedly a mastering house fave though, squeezes a few extra dbs out of a mix for those volume hungry buyers. Daf

    MIDI Question!

point each track at a different VST instrument. Or at your soundcard (assuming it has sounds - mine doesn't) and select different patches. Don't have SX, but that's how it works in VST 5.1. HTH, Daf u c

    Simple usb midi keyboard question

The single slider would be a deal killer for me. M-audio has a number of other products you might like better - If you're okay with a 2-octave keyboard, The Oxygen-8 has 8 assignable knobs and a slider. If you want something bigger, The Radium series has 49 and 61 keys and knobs and sliders...

    Harry Fox for recording choirs?

Not performance royalties, unless you're broadcasting. You do have to pay for sheet music (no copying!), and if you put copyrighted song lyrics in a worship aid, you have to pay a licensing fee. But worship services are specifically exempt from the requirement to pay performance royalties...

    Harry Fox for recording choirs?

Yes they do. In fact, if it's a concert (and not a worship service), they would owe royalties for the performance itself as well. Harry Fox or The Nashville Company is a good place to start. Daf

80's Sound & how to avoid it

Man, this doesn't sound anything like Rick Springfield or Pat Benatar. Or the Waitresses. Or the Gap Band. Or Irene Cara (thank God!). :D Serious now - do what moves you. If this is it, keep doing it. If not, there's some good advice already on what to change. I've played with some...

Amp Modeling Box That Does Both Guitar and Bass?

J-Station has a few bass amp models - perhaps aimed more at the AC/DC guitar-through-a-bass-amp player than a bassist, but I've used them on keyboard bass patches and they've sounded pretty good. Daf

    falsetto / Head voice ?

It's funny - I went around this with my vocal teacher last year - I sang a falsetto note for her, she told me that it wasn't falsetto, it was head voice. I tried to prove her wrong, but didn't have much to go with, especially since I seem to have lost the high end of my falsetto (I'm really...
