Dug up old idea: HOW BOUT AN FAQ AROUND HERE?

Definitely. A glossary will be a must, as well as individual entries for the most covered mics on this board (SM57, B1, V67, etc). I'll have something better tomorrow - i've got several questions and answers, but I want it to be more substantial at first glimpse so people might be more into it...

Dug up old idea: HOW BOUT AN FAQ AROUND HERE?

Look at all them responses! Interest isn't so hot...but that hasn't stopped me. I've already started pulling information off of the forums and putting into a big ol' FAQ. When there's enough on there to really be helpful to newbies, I'll post a link in a new thread.

Dug up old idea: HOW BOUT AN FAQ AROUND HERE?

I think slackmaster mentioned it in the cave somewhere (the idea was thrown around before I think) - a Home recording mic FAQ. I don't post a lot here, but I've read almost every thread for the past year and a half, and especially recently the same "CHEAPEST CONDENSER UNDER 2 C-BILLS" thread is...

Is the neumann m149 the best vocal studio microphone ?

Oh boy... Look, Sousa. Here's a classic story that should answer your question: Joe six-pack finally buys his dream car, a '78 chevy corvette. Nice car, the neighbors say. He covets that car - he is in car nirvana; how could it get any better? A couple of years later, Joe wins the lottery...

Rather than getting a mic that looks like a 57, just get a 57.

    Shure Pg Mics Revisited...

How bout this: PG - pretty good SM - superior mic i think that pretty much sums up your article. The extra $30 saved might be worth it if you're micing drums, but for oh so important vocals/lead instrument, I don't think so.

    WTB: MXL V67, Shure SM57

Here's the scoop: I'm looking to buy some cheap mics. If you have a spare one of these rotting in the basement, email me at grahamware@aol.com. And I'm reputable! ebay username: givingman rating: 100% positive rating (29) Thanks.

    Mission: Radio Shack Raid!

*sigh* Some of us have other expenses besides their mic closet; for us, there are rare (but invaluable) bargains that can make our meager studios sound better. A 50 dollar mic that is worth nearly 100 dollars now costs 15 dollars. If this is far below your price range, fine. But for the...

    Mission: Radio Shack Raid!

Straight up Yeah, they are bright. For trumpet, I only use it for hot, loud jazz numbers where I need the sound to cut through the rest of the band. Also, a lot of high-pitched key clicking, but just like you said, cut the high-end and it sounds fine.

    Mission: Radio Shack Raid!

Wowie. Maybe you got a bad one...but then again, I'm sure you have more recording experience (and a better mic ear) than myself. I like its sound, and for the price I just don't see how you can beat it. If you're in the market for the e604 there probably isn't much sense in picking up a $15...

    Mission: Radio Shack Raid!

With pleasure. No, no my friend - this is not your typical RS garbage by any means. The 33-3032 is similar to a sennheiser drum (kick/tom)mic - e604, I think - which runs at a higher premium (more than $100) than the 33-3032. I use mine for trumpet as well - good for high-impact instruments...

    sm 57 question??

Uhhh... Do you really mean "the best"? How much $$ are you willing to part with?

    Mission: Radio Shack Raid!

For those that are interested... The RS 33-3032 mic that has gotten much attention on this particular board has been discontinued. I visited my local RS to find that its price, where available, is $14.97! Compare that to its near-identical twin, some overpriced Sennheiser. Your mission: Run...

The worst mic and cable EVER?

Nope. I disagree. (Some) RS stuff is infinitely worse than Nady mics. I own an SP9, and for 15 bucks it doesn't sound half bad. Have you ever heard an SP9?

    Shopping for trumpet mics

gotcha DJL (wink) Harvey: We are all playing in the same room at the same time. I don't think dubbing is a viable option - there's only 5 of us, and without me playing during a recording, the less experienced of our group might have some trouble "getting into the groove." We have a particular...

V57 vs V67 Hey is the V57 too much worse than the V67 if I were recording trumpet?

    Shopping for trumpet mics

Low cost condensors? intriguing! Harvey, I have played around with different mic angles a bit, but I haven't tried giving my RS mic some distance yet. I'll give that a shot. Beezoboy, Nice recording - good tone. I'll have to investigate the V67. Do see if you could get that trumpet...

    Shopping for trumpet mics

excellent. Thanks everyone for your ideas! For now, I'm going to stick with what I have. I tried some different angles with my mic and I am somewhat more satisfied. Good ideas though. heh I KNEW "e604" sounded familiar. -Graham

    Shopping for trumpet mics

I looked at some pictures of the Sennheiser and it looks almost identical to the mic I'm using. I know looks aren't everything, but I think there was a discussion here about RS 33-3032's and their similarity to e604s. As for Harvey's tome of microphone knowledge, I have read bits and pieces of...
