People rip off software for the same reason they rip off music, movies, etc,: because they can. If they could rip off their TV cable, electricity, water, telephone, rent, and groceries, they would do that too, and find a justification for it. There's nothing new or modern about the motivation.

I know that comparing the two is the oldest cliche in the book, but here's the question: is there really much difference? Can one actually do something that the other one can't do? Aren't the differences between them pretty small compared to the similarities? Thanks

While I'm at it - if this isn't hijacking my own thread - do any of you use brand name computers? Most of them won't take a 2nd and 3rd drive, and there are other objections, which I can't remember for the life of me. :<)

Whoa!! I should read first. I see we already have a nasal-voiced-microphone thread happening here. What are the odds? Mind you, I'm more thin than nasal. I suppose you could be nasal and sound like a tuba.

Thanks. I have to think about my voice before I sing, and maneuver it a bit. If I don't, my natural inclination is to be a bit thin and nasal.

To what extent do certain mics favour certain voices? Are there any generalizations you can make, as in, 'Brand A favours such-and-such a type of voice?' Thanks

I'd like to know the reasons for not using a recording PC for general use. The security/hacking/data-loss thing I can see, but what are the other concerns? Could someone please explain, or provide a link? What about downloading effects and all the media you need for recording? USB transfer...

Well, thanks for these answers, they have been most helpful. I'm assembling my first DAW, and it looks like the 1212M wins the interface competition.

And if you bought an Edirol or M-Audio interface of a similar type and price, would they have software doing a similar function? Do all interfaces have mixer & router software?

What job does it do? If there was not Patchmix, which other piece of hardware/software would do what Patchmix does? Do other interfaces have something similar? [I'm new at this......]

Reviews seem to consist of those who think it very valuable and those who think it to be Of The Damned or something. What does it do for you? Thanks
