    Portable DAT vs. MiniDisc

Re: Portable ??? Well... I don't think that's quite true - you can get some mighty fine-sounding portable DAT units. Think about it - the most common users of DAT machines (portable or not) are professionals in the sound industry. There certainly isn't a consumer market for them, so it...

Why shouldn't I (or anyone) buy a Microphone at Radio Shack?

Hey MQQ... Is that why they (karaoke singers) always sound SOOO bad - I always thought it was lack of talent, now I discover it was the Radio Shack mics that are used 99.9% of the time, all along!!! Gee, I guess no one ever stops learning, eh?? :D :D :D Bruce

Do egg cartons really work ?

Yup... absolutely... Boardman and I discussed that very thing off-line - each of us explaining what we meant. My comments stem from a different interpretation of where he was coming from.... no worries - there's peace in the valley! :) Bruce

Why shouldn't I (or anyone) buy a Microphone at Radio Shack?

Yeah... but they charge DOLLARS for the nickel and dime stuff! $8.00 for a freakin' hardwire Y-adaptor worth about 50 cents... gimme a break!!!!!! Bruce

    Monitors

YIKES... Specs are meaningless - you HAVE to hear them to make any sort of judgment on their quality. The name itself reminds me of the "in-house" garbage they sell at The Brick. If it SOUNDS too good to be true, it probably is -- and I don't know of any studios that bought their monitors out...

    Cords & Wires

I bought pipe insulation foam tubing from Home Depot (hardware)- it's black, it cushions the cabling (so it's not ground into the floor!), and you can get it in a diameter big enough to allow snakes to be bundled......... and 6 feet costs about $1.50!!! Works great! Bruce

cant for the life of me get a Lexicon MPX500 to work....HELP!!

Hmmm, why can't you route one channel with one signal and the other with another??? The inputs in the back are NOT summed to mono, so 2-channel separation is maintained from the input thru to the output, with one (or dual) effects being applied in between as needed. Bruce Sorry, maybe I'm...

Would you tell me not to get an Alesis MidiVerb?

Agreed, but I wasn't using price as the ratio factor! (more to the point of the level of sound quality difference) I guess I should have used a smilie! :) Bruce [Edited by bvaleria on 01-23-2001 at 05:50]

Do egg cartons really work ?

Hey, I'm chillin' fine thanks........ :D You're right, this isn't a pissing contest, but with 20 years experience, how can you say that you can fix it with a little EQ, reverb, effects??? Get the sound right going to tape the first time.... much cleaner... I'm not trashing you at all, just...

cant for the life of me get a Lexicon MPX500 to work....HELP!!

Hmmm... I don't quite understand - you can send it a mono signal and get a stereo output. You can also send it 2 mono signals and get a stereo output (same thing as the first point). You can send also send it 2 mono signals and get back 2 mono signals each with separate processing (dual mono...

    Lexicon MPX-1 reverb

The only thing that controls the blend between the dry and effect'd sound is the MIX control... You could have it miswired - on some gear, if you mix up input and output connections, the signal simply passes thru. Check your wiring. Bruce

First impresion of large diaphram mic

I use AT4051s and they are quite nice.... you shouldn't need to EQ at all if you've got the placement correct! I'm not surprised if you are boosting highs when trying to record an acoustic with a dynamic mic - getting that "shimmer" is impossible without a mic that can give you that top end...
