    problem importing midi

Looks like a Channel problem, just save your midi from reason , throw it in sonar (make sure it is a .mid file) and before you play check all the channels and set them all to GM. See if it works.

    tape cassettes/cd

Adobe Audition (COOL Edit pro) is a very reliable and has lot of hiss/buzz/click/pop/noise/voice cleaning stuff. Take a look at it, definitely a worthy buy. Also works pretty well with Sonar too, if you want to combine both.

    Using Compresssion

The best advice is not to use someone else's presets or values. You have to tweak teh knobs and get the right sound and then make your own presets if you like them.

    depth in stereo recordings

Just like you said panning is to move the sound left and right and the depth of a track is achieved by adjustin the volume. Less volume it goes back, more volume it comes front, Always think 3 dimentionally when you mix, dont just worry about left and right, there is more to it. I am glad you...

    Getting started

Cubase, Protools, Sonar all matter of taste, stick on to anything you are comfortable with. Going for a HD is a very good option because you get better quality analog to digital converters than the soundcard ones for sure. Mostly the mixer part is controlled through software in the DAW and it is...

    Do anyone know?

The AKG K240 is the closest one I ever found to monitors. They are real flat and extremely nice. Still mixing in a headphone is not recommended, you wont get the proper spacing.

That is the problem with digital, you cannot mix them that easily, if you have a digital mixer with multiple digital inputs you can do it, what digital input is that? spdif? Aes/ebu? or Toslink? The whoel purpose of using midi si to get the better sounds you want anytime. If you think your casio sounds like crap trigger the softsynth. If you dont liek it get a soundmodule and use that. As ong as you have midi data you can trigger any sounds that you like and keep your music sounding good.

    $3000 budget HELP!

First advice, build a faster p4 computer. Then soundcard, if you need quality you definitely need a betetr soundcard than soundblaster stuff. Check teh M=Audio series for the one that fits your budget. Then monitors, computer speakers is not an option. Some good mics and you are set. I am sure...

Need PC Recording SetUp Help: Have Guitartracks Pro

You said M-Audio preamp is connected via usb to laptop, so I guess it is a usb soundcard with preamp you are talking about. In that case you dont need a soundcard. Speakers are very essential if you want to mix your tracks. If you are just doing this with two or three tracks as a compact fun...

Try installing your drivers again, and also under audio options make sure all your drivers on the Driver tab (I think it is the last tab)are selected. Those numbers means in and out channels as you guessed. If it says 1 in 1 out. Thats what your soundcard is. Integrated audio......you can't...

semi newbie, recordings too bassy. help.

If you are looking for a decent priced sub woofer, go with the samson. Middle man and few others recommended it to me a month ago and I just got it and I've been using for a month now. It is great, built in cross over, goes well with my Roland and Truth monitors. My cross over is around 90 and...

    slow sound transmission from keyboard

It is usually your driver problem, update your midi interface/soundcard driver and see if it works. If not select Options>midi devices>click ok everytime before you record and see if that works (worked for me when I had this issue in Sonar 2)
