    this sucks

hmmm, that's actually a good thing! The less circuitry in your path, the better :) I agree with lots of other folks that your room might be a big reason why it sounds like doggy doo.

Delta 44 Operating Level in Linux

Awesome! Glad it worked :-) One of these days I'm going to put Linux on my PC. Good to know that I can get the Delta 44 running. It would be neat to do all my tracking in Linux (so i don't get any hiccups while laying stuff down), and then mix in Windows so I can use my Waves plug-ins (along...

Delta 44 Operating Level in Linux

Can you boot up your machine to Windows, set the level with the M-Audio Control Panel, and then reboot into Linux? Not sure if the card would remember the settings after it is turned off, back on.

    Sigma acoustic guitar for studio?

hmmmm, You're not going to get much of an acoustic for $100. Do you play acoustic? Do you want one to keep at the studio so a band can use it? I think any band/performer worth anything would already have their own acoustic(s) already. I know I would want to bring one of my own acoustics to...

hmmmm, I don't think anyone has ever asked this before. Should be interesting to see the responses... :)

uhhh, The Firepod most definetly HAS Phantom Power. http://presonus.com/firepod.html From the 3rd Hardware Paragraph - Reading (and research!) is fundamental :-)

    Palm-Like Synchronization

Google is your friend! http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Freeware+File+Sync The first hit ( http://allwaysync.com/ ) looks pretty decent, but I haven't used it.

    stupid waveform question

hmmm, Are you actually recording a stereo signal when recording a stereo track? If you are recording a mono source to a stereo track, one of the waveforms will be flat. Just stick with recording mono tracks for mono signals.

    Driver installation help

OK, maybe they've added a nice installer since I last installed my Delta back in 2003. Listen to sixways!

    Need Software help

Re. Kristal - Wow, no aux sends and a limit of two track inserts would be a deal killer for me. N-Track is pretty full featured and is only about $60. It's what I've been using since 2000. I've never used Cubase/Sonar/Logic so I don't know what I'm missing, but N-Track does everything I need...

    Computer Recording

I third the Delta and a small mixer! The great thing about having the interface seperate from the pres is that when you get better/more interested/win the lottery, you can upgrade your pres with something better (and then eventually your interface) and still use the interface. If you buy an...

    Driver installation help

It's been awhile for me, but lets see if I can rack (errr wreck?) my brain... You download a zip file from the website. You unzip the files in some temp directory (or somewhere you can remember such as My Documents/delta_drivers) Then you pop the card in the new PC and boot up. The New...

    Extreme computer dumbass

Another option if your internet PC and music PC aren't near each other, is to buy a USB Thumb Drive, 512MB should be plenty to shuffle some songs or software installation files back and forth.

Need help with recording project for fundraiser

Audacity (Google it for the URL) is completely free and will record as long as you have free hard drive space. It can also do some basic editing. It's very simple as well. I personally use N-Track which is shareware and more geared towards multitrack recording, but I still dabble in Audacity...

    Soundcard issue w/Delta 44

The Delta 44 is ALL the soundcard you will need. The first thing I did on my new PC was disable the onboard sound from the BIOS. All audio on my PC goes through the Delta - Windoze sounds, listening to CDs/mp3s from WMP, cute little movies on the WWW, and some games (Elf Bowling!) I also have...

    Extreme computer dumbass

You download the INSTALLATION FILE (usually something like install.exe or setup.exe) and put that on a CD-R/thumb drive/whatever and you bring that file over to the recording PC. You don't actually install the Software on your internet PC. You then bring the install.exe file onto your laptop...

    Connecting powered monitors

Since the speakers are powered, you're actually sending a line-level output from the Delta to the speaker, so you definetly don't want speaker cables (those would be for power amp out->unpowered speakers) I have my Delta 44 outs going into a stereo input on my Mackie 1202 and then I use the...

    audacity

Stacked? I think Fox finally cancelled it, at least it hasn't been on in awhile. It was pretty awful :D hipknot01 - I hope I didn't scare you away, but your question was pretty basic, PC 101 stuff. Now where did I park my Delorean? :D

    audacity

Do you even know how computers/storage/hard drives work? I pretty much answered the question in my post above. Find where Audacity is storing the files for your tracks and delete them if you don't need them. OR get rid of other files/programs you don't need, OR buy more hard drive space.
