    Recording using a board???

If you have REALLY high end converters (both out of the computer and back into the computer) and you have a REALLY high end mixing board (Neve, SSL), and you know what you are doing and everything else is as good as it can be, you might be better off mixing on a real board. If you have an Audio...

    Recording using a board???

That's why it sounded so much better than your attempts! Also, the mics, the sound of the room (especially for drums), pre-amps, A/D converters, etc... will have a big impact on the sound. If you think there exists some magic "board", you're kidding yourself.

    phantom power

ummm, when you write , it takes a little while to understand what you're saying because of the differences between NO and KNOW (similar with TO,TWO, and TOO) So it takes me longer to understand the sentence, and it makes it harder to help you. If you wrote , my head wouldn't hurt as much! If...

    someone PLEASE tell me

Again, there are TWELVE outputs. You can hook 1/2 into a pair of speakers/headphone amp/mixer. Pretty basic stuff. Call me jealous that you can blow $1800 on something that you really don't understand.

    Best acoustic guitar brand

Taylors are ok, a bit too bright for my taste. They are put together really nicely and play great (slim necks). If you're really looking for the "best", I'd set your sites a bit higher than Taylor. Look into - Santa Cruz Collings Goodall Huss & Dalton Froggy Bottom Bourgeois Ryan Omega Olson...

Thinking about getting a motu HD192

What's to not understand? It has 12 balanced inputs and 12 balanced outputs (+4/XLR jacks) Plug whatever you want to be converted to digital into the inputs, and plug the outputs into whatever playback/routing devices you want. If this isn't clear to you, perhaps you should start out with...

    External Firewire drives

I've had good luck with both newegg.com AND buy.com for External Hard Drives and other PC related stuff. Recently I bought a 250GB Fantom USB 2.0 drive for $89 After-rebate from buy.com and a $15 PCI Firewire card from newegg.com.

I'm not really sure how to ask this, but...

Lyle Lovett's Joshua Judges Ruth has some great production. The opening track - "I've been to Memphis" has a great sounding bare piano track, then an amazing sounding snare comes in, and finally the glorious sound of Lyle's Collings guitar. I love to crank this one up!

ISOLATING the Recording Computer from the NET.

No isolation here. I have DSL, but it goes through a D-Link router which has a pretty decent firewall. I run Norton AV fulltime, and I have WEP enabled on our wireless network. I also have MAC filtering setup on our Router so only our PCs can connect to our network. If I'm doing serious...

I've got it down to three soundcards...help me make it one!

Another vote for the 44. It is a very simple 4-in, 4-out soundcard. No mediocre pres, no MIDI (I don't do MIDI), not headphone out, no dials/knobs/buttons/blinking lights, just really good for the money AD and DA converters.

    Mackie 1202-VLZ Question

Hello Mr. Blackthorne! I have the 1202 VLZ Pro and I pretty much use it just for monitoring - both while tracking and mixing. What I recommned is to plug your monitor speakers into the MAIN outputs, and then use the monitor bus for the headphones. I'm not sure exactly how I have it setup as...

    Keyboard recording: what sound card?

What if I want to record bleeps and boops? (I know what a beep is, not entirely sure about the boop though!) Seriously, I've been running the M-Audio Delta 44 since 2000 (yep, ~7 years ago) and it has yet to fail me! Great card, does what it does (4 Ins, and 4 outs, that's all!) and is fairly...

    Camera software?

Forget camera software. If you just need to get the pictures onto your recording rig, get a card reader. You can then use the Windows Picture Viewer to view them. Stick the SD/CF/whatever card into your card reader and you'll see a new drive under My Computer. Copy the picture files into...

    beginner advice please :)

I've been taking pictures for awhile and I really enjoy it. What is an f-stop? What does it mean to have a fast lens? Actually, that's not that bad of a question, being that one can take decent pictures with a P&S set on Auto. Sorry, thought I was in the Photography forum. Move on, there is...
