    looking into setting up recording on my computer?

    I am rather new to computer recording.Can you tell me what I need in order to set up recording on my computer. Which version of Cakewalk? What about a soundcard? I would like to use midi with two 1/4 jacks for input. Can I get a usb? I have a brand new computer with Windows Vista.
