    TRS-TRS Snakes & Neutrik PatchBay

PM's responded to. Should post one of the questions and answers here for the group. The idea of the patchbay is to bring the connections that are on the back of your gear to a location where it is easier to get to. You can also set up the patchbay so that certain connections are the default...

    TRS-TRS Snakes & Neutrik PatchBay

After selling my 24x8x2 console and moving to a 16x4x2, I now have some extra snakes and an extra patchbay. Here's what I have 3 - Hosa CSS-803 PRO 3 meter 8 channel TRS-TRS snakes. They go for around $70new, I'd like to get $45 ea. 3 - Hosa CSS-802-PRO 2 meter 8 channel TRS-TRS snakes...

    Analog mixer

If you're only tracking 4 tracks at a time, it looks like the Lambda would be all you'd need. Don't get me wrong, an analog mixer can still play an important role in a digital studio. I use an Allan & Heath Mix Wiz and take the direct outs into a couple MOTUs (an 828mkIII and an 8pre). The...

Which room to use for recording?

No substitute for testing out the rooms in questions. You might be pleasantly surprised or at the minimum, you'll get to learn a bit about room acoustics. It's one thing to read about standing bass waves and another thing to experience it first hand.

    Best $200 range condensor mic

Yeah, that Rode would get my vote. Plus, Rode customer service is awesome in every way. I have to say though, for a lot of vocals a 58 ain't a bad choice.

MIDI 101 Question: Virtual Instruments vs. Keyboard on MIDI playback

I was recording a really talented piano player/singer the other day and he says, "hey, can you also record the MIDI out?" "no problemo" I say. I hook a MIDI cable into the back of my MOTU 828mk3 and his keyboard, set up the MIDI track in Sonar and not only get the stereo analog signal but also...

Help me buy monitors I can use

Monitors are such a personal choice. Plus that, the room makes a HUGE difference. A few years back I wrote a very indepth report on my hunt for new monitors after years with a pair of Mackie HR824's. I ultimately ended up with a pair of KRK VST6's. After a month or so with them, my mixes...

Am I too old for Motu? - Help with an 8pre and 828mkIII

OK, I spent some time this afternoon on this. I was able to connect JUST the 8Pre via firewire to the PC and ran the software that came with my 828. The 8Pre came up in CueMix and the Audio Console. I then set it back up with the 828 in the fold and had to reinstall the drivers of the disc...

Am I too old for Motu? - Help with an 8pre and 828mkIII

Hey Jim, I'm only seeing the 10 inputs from the 828mkIII when I go to the input section of Sonar. I do see LED activity at the 8Pre so I'm confident my mixer is connected to it correctly at least... Also, the little LEDs on the 828 that are supposed to indicate ADAT activity show nothing...

Am I too old for Motu? - Help with an 8pre and 828mkIII

About a year ago I moved to a MOTU 828mkIII as my first (and only) interface. It took me a long time to stop thinking like a 24-8-2 mixer guy and start thinking like a CueMix Sonar guy, but I'm there and enjoying it. I recently got a used 8Pre off ebay thinking have a few more inputs would be...

So it looks like all is spoken for except the Presonus and the MXL. I'd be inclined to do a smokin' package deal if somebody wanted both units ;)

I'm cleaning out the closet. This is some of the gear I started with when I got a bit more seroius about recording (beyond the 4-track and Radio Shack mics). As such, I'd love to see this stuff go to a newbie or younger musician/recording enthousiast. So I have two prices here, one for...

    NT5 - Repair, Replace, Or???

Just talked with Rode. New capsule on the way. Absolutely amazing customer service. Good thing I like their mics a lot too!

    NT5 - Repair, Replace, Or???

On the suggestion of a buddy, I tried swapping the capsules between the two mics and low and behold, the problem follows the capsule. The strange thing is that when I didn't screw the capsule all the way on, but maybe 3/4 of a turn from being all the way, the pulsing sound seemed to go away...

Excellent thought! I'll take a look at the Rode website and see what I can see. Thanks.

    NT5 - Repair, Replace, Or???

If somebody can do this mod, shouldn't I ask them about repairing the mic first? Would be great to just fix this one... if repair services exist that is.
