What to do with my old Tascam 38?

Not too close, but if it comes to that, then yeah, I'll brave the 405 :) In the meantime, i ordered a new belt and am sending the pinch roller to Terry (Terry's Rubber Rollers). It's my hope that these two items will be all it needs. Thanks all for the help on this.

Sweet. Youtube literally has everything don't they :)

What to do with my old Tascam 38?

Well I lubed the pivot point for the tensioning pin and it's working well now. The pinch roller seems to be working well enough but the capstan belt is now slipping enough that the playback speed is WAY slow. For $12 I'm gonna order a belt and hope that does it, without a shop trip.

What to do with my old Tascam 38?

I've had a Tascam 38 for about 15 years. A few albums, countless demos, etc. but for the past 5 years it hasn't had any use, and for the past 15 months it was in storage while my family moved and then remodeled the new home. So today I get it out and hook it up to a mixer to see if it still...

Reel to Reel: which one should I choose?

I made the same transition years ago from a cassette based 4-track to the Tascam 38. It's a 8-track, 1/2" reel to reel at 15ips. I think the first mixer I used with it was a Mackie 1604-VLZ. Made TONs of demos with that setup. Later moved to a Soundtracs Topaz and some nicer outboard gear...

Studio Cable - Snakes, Inserts, Patch, etc.

Sold 10 of the AP Audio Patch Cables. Anybody else for some high quality studio cables?

Studio Cable - Snakes, Inserts, Patch, etc.

All cables were used in either my home studio or the studio where my friend worked for a few years that is now out of business. All are in in very good to like new condition. I'll sell these things individually but will give a discount to anyone buying more than just a few. 5 - CBI 3m C...

    51-54Hz = 6db Hump?

Yeah, I did some reading about these. I'd come up with a slightly different dimension but in the ballpark of what you suggest. Unfortunetly, I just don't have the space. This room is also my instrument storage room and my home office. I guess I could make them, store them in the garage and...

    51-54Hz = 6db Hump?

I wouldn't leave the EQ on the mix for final mixdown, just for the time I was working on it. Or like the phrase you said, "EQ the monitors." I hadn't thought about the effect moving my head around might have. Seems like a few inches in one direction or another wouldn't be that big a deal, but...

    51-54Hz = 6db Hump?

Yup, clearly my 11'x11' room is an issue here. No room for any more traps or other treatments though. But an earlier question has me wondering: Since I know that 51-54Hz is a 'trouble' spot for my room, this means that my mixing room will exaggerate those frequencies by about 6 dB. I would...

    51-54Hz = 6db Hump?

Thanks. I used a mic that has Cardiod, Figure 8 and Omni for my test so I'll try it again with it set to Omni. I'm also going to try it with the closet door open, and the two entry doors open. They're the reason I don't have traps in two corners of the room, but it occured to me that by...

    51-54Hz = 6db Hump?

Some interesting thoughts, thanks all. Are there programs out there (preferably freebies) that would let me put a .wav file into it and it can show me how much of this particular frequency is present? My thought is, since this is pretty low maybe paying $$$ to chase it down might not be worth...

    51-54Hz = 6db Hump?

What are you, some kind of a wizard? :)You nailed it dead on. This stinkin' room is almost a cube, 11'x11' with 9.5' ceilings. That's pretty funny, I'm guessing there's a software package out there that calculates that? Thanks for the big grin!

    51-54Hz = 6db Hump?

Is this frequency a common problem spot? I downloaded a series of mp3 files that were supposed to be 10Hz to 300Hz, all at the same dB level. I put them into my Daw, plugged in a mic with a Figure 8 pattern and positioned it roughly where my head is during mixing, with the 8's pointing out...

Painting a design on a canvas covered bass trap?

Rob - that's a great suggestion. If I go with a lighter color burlap or loose weave canvas, I could probably do something pretty cool with just black dye. That's a really good idea.

Painting a design on a canvas covered bass trap?

Thanks guys. The canvas I used is a really loose weave, almost like a burlap just not as course feeling. Honestly, I think it's what was on sale at Joanne's when I first built them. And yes, you can breath through it no problem. Heck, you can actually see through it when you hold it up. I'd...

Painting a design on a canvas covered bass trap?

I am about ready to put up the traps in my new room. In my last room, I had a pretty dark motif going on with all my traps finished in black canvas. This new room is a bit smaller and I'm going to go with a natural canvas color on most of them. But the one that will be right behind me is sort...

    Mixing in an untreated room

Marital advice and recording advice all in one forum. How sweet are we? Seriously though, I totally get the thing with the wife. Mine understands that music is a big part of my life, but as she says "it's not a big part of hers." We've found compromises through the years but that just...
