first of all, thanks y'all for all the replies. I use Alesis m1 active 520's...just a $200 pair of monitors...I think instead of investing in a sub, I'm going to invest in some better monitors, probably with larger speakers in them, mine have a 6" driver, puts out some bass but 0 sub frequencies...

+1 for having some strong opener tracks first, usually when i'm listening to an album if the strong songs are first it motivates you to leave the album on and ride out to the ending.

You might want to putt the whole thing in to an Graphic EQ or the like, and cut with a high Q the 20-40 hz range, this will de-mud some of the song, and reduce some of the bass, it might help. T :D

i always set the mic gain the the lowest setting, there is a compressor in there, just don't know how to access it (i have the h4). get out the manual and see about adding the compressor to the master or each mic channel in. but def make sure you are recording with the lowest mic gain.

i don't know man i see protools in way more high end studios than any other daw...probably for a home recording choice, go with reaper, but the studio I work at uses PT HD and i do come in my pantalones everytime i get to use it. I've never used reaper though, just heard it's the tits.
