    My studio construction thread

I loved what you said about seeing the dream first. That was very encouraging! Personally, I can see my dream as if it's happening right now. Unfortunately, at this point it is just that: a dream. Thanks for the visual encouragement and the verbal as well. :)

    Bass through board question

Spend an extra couple of bucks and get the Hartke VXL Bass Attack pedal. It's like a little amp in a pedal. Tone shaping, E.Q. there's not much more you would need if going D.I. Great bass pedal for your application. Especially if your bass is passive.

    5 string bass question...

funny thread. My comment is this and since I skipped alot of the nonsense in this thread it may have already been addressed. Think on this: If a four string was the end all to what a bassist needed, then why would there be so many people who play in drop D? :laughings:

    Can i power protools with a M-Audio Axiom 49

The biggest downfall of Digidesign is that they did not diversify like Avid is doing. Protools, to set it's self apart and protect actual music production, made it so that everything was relegated to a digidesign product. That way they could control the "electronics" by which a "protools"...

I need help getting a good kick drum sound

20" is very moderate!! Period. I'm not sure why, but I feel combative tonight. The kick is made to be the heart-beat of the song. Nobody has a heart beat that sounds any higher than 100hz. Keep it low! If anything, tune a little high so you can kick hard. A light tap on a kick that "beats,"...

Tips on how to succeed in the music industry?

Just watched a video of him playing live in '75. In my opinion not as impressive as some other people using Talkbox but he definitely was the pioneer. Which makes me think that we should be not only show respect for the originals but, also compound on what they have done. Because after doing...

    Cymbal Wash in my Overheads

It's so funny you said that about the hotrods. A majority of the recordings that I do like I was using hotrods. The only problem with that is that the toms sound like a bag of garbage you left outside in 98 degree weather would smell. If there is any comparison to be drawn there. . . Anyways, I...

    Cymbal Wash in my Overheads

I had a fellow drummer tell me that if I rubbed a bunch of mud onto my current cymbals they "might" sound ok. Is there a line to be drawn between working with what you got and scrapping the cymbals you have? Correct me if I'm wrong. . .nevermind. Answer this: with cymbals, can you make a toad...

Tips on how to succeed in the music industry?

I just recently (like 5 min ago and years of listening to the greats: Zapp & Roger) did some research on Talkbox. A real good friend of mine is into synth and everything that goes along with that. We were talking about (no pun intended) Talkbox. I realized something. Talkbox, in it's original...

Tips on how to succeed in the music industry?

I was just wandering through this thread and then I went back and read the whole thing. This is a very influential and even "historical" thread. I say historical because what is being discussed directly relates to our culture. No matter what anyone says (yes I am making that bold of a...

    Cymbal Wash in my Overheads

Yeah I agree dinty. It seems like some cymbal shopping is gonna be the next thing I have to convince my wife of. "But baby, you don't understand! I NEED new cymbals!"

Is it the SansAmp or my bass?

It sounds like the VT would be your best bet, if you're stuck on a sansamp pedal (which I do recommend). The bass sounds like a real winner it's just working with it to get the sound that you want. Take it into a music store and see if they'll let you hook it up to a couple different pre-amps...

    Cymbal Wash in my Overheads

Thanks a mil to everyone. My playing style is very soft because typically I'm playing alot of jazz and groove stuff. Not a real smasher. I do think, however, that the cymbals themselves would be a good starting point. The package I got came at a ridiculous price because a couple friends at a...

    Cymbal Wash in my Overheads

Thanks Naka That video is great. In fact, it's making me think that the more mics the worse your problem. I'll post a good pic of what I'm working with and see if that makes more sense.

    My studio construction thread

Ok sorry. I just geeked out on the photos a little more. I am sitting here wondering what you use to manage all the inputs. Who (or what) keeps track of random input changes. I ask this not to imitate what you are doing, because I am far from achieving such an established setup. I ask simply...

Brilliant space!! Definite inspiration. If you don't mind me asking, how long has "it" taken.

Is it the SansAmp or my bass?

I got an L2000 too and to be completely honest that bass has an onboard mixer. The sansamp DI is made to boost/enhance a weak or "lacking" signal. The basses that have already been named come equipped with a tone all their own. (granted this can be argued that all basses come with a tone all...

Is it the SansAmp or my bass?

The sansamp DI probably is not the problem. Stilleto's are more of a finger style players bass. What you need to do is head over to rondo music . com and get a p-bass. Slap some quarter pounders in it and keep it all passive. If you are a real action freak get a mighty-mite neck and a new...

    Cymbal Wash in my Overheads

Ok I'm pretty sure that this forum just hates new people but it works out great because I feed off hate. Maybe after sifting through all the random negative comments that everyone makes I may find some actual information from someone who's "been there and done that".:drunk: My problem is not...
