I agree. I had a MEQ for a time and found that my system sounded better without it than with it even when properly adjusted. The MEQ will likely create more noise and phase problems than it's worth. Sorry, can't comment on the DEQ.

I think EW is still trying to shake the reputation from the earlier years. Their rather quiet now, though that wasn't always the case.

I recently received a Earthworks promotional CD from Full Compass that featured the QTC 40 against other EW mics as well as the QTC 40 against a couple LDC Neumann's (I think it was the U87 and the U47). I got to say I was VERY impressed at the QTC40 in a female vocal application. Perhaps not...

Second that! Also, I just used them on a horn section for a live DVD shoot. Worked REALLY well. Just trying to point out they're a versatile mic.

One to consider that won't break the bank yet is surprisingly good is the Rane MS1b. good luck

Thanks for all the help everyone. It turned out to be an unplugged ribbon cable on the A/D card inside the unit. Once replugged, it performed flawlessly. The gig went well.
