    Precisely.

    Assigning memory to certain applications?

Are you talking about assigning priority to certain processes? Because in XP, I hit ctrl+alt+del to bring up the task manager...then click the processes tab, right click on the process and then scroll down to priority and you can select low to high.

    First synth

The virus is a coolass synth. But not really made for "real" sounding instruments. I would second the vote the triton rack if your looking for something like this.

    CD Walkman playing fast?

No. If 44.1khz was a "loose term", your music would sound interesting to say the least. It takes a sample every 1/44100th of a second, regardless of what's there.

    recording

I would definitely second the Roland VS idea. I started on 4 track cassette recorders, but when I got my first digital workstation (the Roland VS-880EX -$450 on ebay several years ago) I was in heaven. The thing sounds great...for someone who is new to recording, he'll love it. It's also a...

    Favorite softsynth - what's yours?

Has anyone tried the Waldorf Attack VST drum synth? It's pretty killer for electronic type beats and some weird sound effects. Plus, can you say multitimbral?? Each key gets its own 2 oscillators, filter, envelope, etc. sounds good to boot.

    How The Hell do I...

If you get those "messenger service" popups, check out this link to turn off Windows messenger... http://www.dvdsqueeze.com/windowsmessage.htm Something I do every once in a while is go to the start menu, click 'run...' then type 'msconfig'. The very last tab on the right is every service...

    First synth

If you already have a MIDI controller, I would look into a nice rack synth...You'll save money without going for one with a keyboard attached, thus being able to afford a nicer synth. The most important question is what kind of sounds are you looking for? www.vintagesynth.com is a website I...

    Nuendo 2

I've used it a little bit... Not sure of the differences between it and 1.0 other than the fact that it looks a lot cooler... The differences between Nuendo 2.0 and SX are subtle, yet very nice. You get separate mixer channels for your inputs (allowing inserts, eq, etc. before tape). The...

    CD Walkman playing fast?

We're the tracks recorded at different sample rates? That's the only thing i can think of. Normally CD's are 44.1K, but if one track was recorded higher or lower than that, they might play back at a different speed when burned. Was there anytime when you transferred the tracks to your...

    ADAT interfaces

You've got the strategy down! I no longer let myself buy ANYTHING on ebay, lest i pawn something off first... There wouldn't be a noticeable difference using the analog ins on the MOTU with the digital ADATs from your mixer. The analog ins on the MKII and up have 24bit A/D converters, so they...

    ADAT interfaces

Well, I'm also a student with expensive hobbies so I feel your pain! As a matter of fact, I just sold my Delta 1010 and was faced with the decision of the RME or a MOTU 2408 MKII. I picked the MKII, because I'm planning on picking up one of the Behringer ADA8000's (budget, like i said)...

    ADAT interfaces

check out the RME Digi 9652. You can get em on ebay for 200-250, and they have 3 adat i/o. they're cheaper since the hdsp series came out, and the only improvement they really have is a software mixer. Otherwise, you can look at the motu 2408 MKII or MKIII...for 3 adat I/O along with 8 analog...

    Help recording the mic sound

two questions: 1. Do you have the most recent drivers for the M-audio? 2. Did you buy Cubase or did you download it?

    Web page info.

well, geocities will host your site, but you probably only get around 5 meg or so for a free one. However, you could get a site there, and then host your MP3's over at soundclick or mp3.com or something like that, and then just link from your site over to there...

    recording mic to cubase

It should be under "devices" located at the top. That's how SX is, VST could be different. Look for something like "audio setup" or something to that effect. There will be a dialogue where you select the drivers you want to use. That should solve your problems.

    recording mic to cubase

Are you using Cubase VST? Sx? Click on 'devices' then "device setup" Click the VST multitrack tab...then in the driver box, select M-audio ASIO. Create an audio track, and set the input to M-audio Duo. It should outline this in the Cubase manual as well..
