    overclocking

glad to hear you got back up and running so quick! I was moving a few things in and out of my box the other day, and in the middle of surfing the net my heat siren went off...wtf? turned out an errant wire from the power supply had lodged itself between one of the cpu fan fins and the fans...

If you had $300 to spend on home recording, how would you spend it.

I can't say that you could "complete" the setup for $300 per se... What do you want to record? How many ins/outs simultaneously? Do you have mics, preamps?

Running dual Delta 66 and 44

my suggestion if you are looking for more inputs would be to sell the box you have now on ebay, and get something like a Delta 1010 or MOTU 2408 MKII. I had the 1010 for a while...great interface, but upgraded because the MOTU has Lightpipe also, allowing it to be expanded to 24 inputs pretty...

    MOTU 2408MKII price question

Well I'm not sure how much more expensive gear is over in Germany, but regardless i would say absolutely not. I picked up a used 2408 MKII on ebay here in the states a few months ago for about $400. The new MKIII's even go for under $1000 here, so I would say to keep looking.

    Separating midi instruments

The stereo outs dont matter, because they deal with audio and not midi. One midi connection can send 16 separate channels. I would think that you should be able to assign on your VDrum box the channel and note that each drum corresponds to. For example, set each pad to go to a different midi...

How do you run a server?

One more question... It looks like I might be able to get away with just putting one card in my server... My cable modem has a USB interface as well as the regular cat 5e cable... My question is would my performance (connection speed) suffer by using the usb connection to my cable modem...

How do you run a server?

Just to make sure I have this clear... So I can install TWO network cards in the server PC, plug one into the modem and the other into my main PC? Which would essentially put my main PC on my "network"?

How do you run a server?

Well thank you all for the info... Obviously, I'm going to learn as I go, just as I did last year when I built my first computer (which works if you were wondering...). The website isn't that big of a deal to me. I'm more interested in experimenting with running a very simple server to learn...

How do you run a server?

thanks sae... One more question...I still want to connect my pc to my cable modem along with my server. Do I need a router or a "switch"? I was looking at both of these on newegg.com and couldn't tell what the difference was.

How do you run a server?

thanks, dawg. And thank you all for the input. I definately would say that I am more the DIY variety...and enjoy a challenge. I suppose I should have said that all I really want this for is a simple FTP server. I'm not running any fancy code. Maybe a couple of email addresses. That's all...

Budget vocal mic? For some 'warmth'

I would second the vote for the oktava MK-319...I bought one a few months ago, and thought it was a great deal at 100 bucks...well, now guitar center has 'em for 50. In my opinion it's pretty much a no brainer. But it is suggested that you try a few out before you pick 'the one'.

How do you run a server?

Hey folks, sorry if this is slightly OT, but I'm sick of paying yahoo 8 bucks a month for 20meg of host space, so I decided to try and run my own server to host my new band's website. My buddy donated an only slightly outdated HP that I plan to run it off of. Having never done this before, i...

    Everything's too Quiet!

Search the forum for "Normalize" and you will find pages and pages on why it is NOT a useful tool. Long story short is that it acts only on the peaks of the audio file, bringing the loudest point up to 100% (or whatever you set it at)...if that loudest point happens to be a peak at 99%, then...

    No PT for me?

It is my understanding that while the uber-expensive Protools HD systems offer far superior processing and quality (as they damn well better for the price) the less-expensive consumer-level stuff such as the mbox and other hardware products using protools LE are really not anything...
