I can't say that you could "complete" the setup for $300 per se... What do you want to record? How many ins/outs simultaneously? Do you have mics, preamps?

my suggestion if you are looking for more inputs would be to sell the box you have now on ebay, and get something like a Delta 1010 or MOTU 2408 MKII. I had the 1010 for a while...great interface, but upgraded because the MOTU has Lightpipe also, allowing it to be expanded to 24 inputs pretty...

same as the cubase one.

Well I'm not sure how much more expensive gear is over in Germany, but regardless i would say absolutely not. I picked up a used 2408 MKII on ebay here in the states a few months ago for about $400. The new MKIII's even go for under $1000 here, so I would say to keep looking.

The stereo outs dont matter, because they deal with audio and not midi. One midi connection can send 16 separate channels. I would think that you should be able to assign on your VDrum box the channel and note that each drum corresponds to. For example, set each pad to go to a different midi...

One more question... It looks like I might be able to get away with just putting one card in my server... My cable modem has a USB interface as well as the regular cat 5e cable... My question is would my performance (connection speed) suffer by using the usb connection to my cable modem...

Just to make sure I have this clear... So I can install TWO network cards in the server PC, plug one into the modem and the other into my main PC? Which would essentially put my main PC on my "network"?

Well thank you all for the info... Obviously, I'm going to learn as I go, just as I did last year when I built my first computer (which works if you were wondering...). The website isn't that big of a deal to me. I'm more interested in experimenting with running a very simple server to learn...

thanks sae... One more question...I still want to connect my pc to my cable modem along with my server. Do I need a router or a "switch"? I was looking at both of these on newegg.com and couldn't tell what the difference was.

I would second the vote for the oktava MK-319...I bought one a few months ago, and thought it was a great deal at 100 bucks...well, now guitar center has 'em for 50. In my opinion it's pretty much a no brainer. But it is suggested that you try a few out before you pick 'the one'.
