Three very different mics, depending on your Modus Operand for the video project. While I have not used the MXL's personally, I could see the 303 being useful perhaps as a table-top mic for interviews, but not much else. Definitely not outdoor work with a shotgun that short. The 304 looks a...
Aux Send A from Alesis -> Input (Mono) on GX700
Output L/R from GX700 -> Aux Return A L/R on Multimix
Set Aux Return A knob to unity (+/- 0) and use Aux Send A knob on the channel you want to effect.
Correct. You don't want to run through both pre-amp circuits; the only way around that is to run balanced (TRS) line-level between the preamp and the interface.
Just a thought - you might experiment with running your mic directly to one of the preamps on the Tascam, bypassing the ART...
gehauser,
I agree that #1 was clear and bright, however it wasn't my favorite for this voice. To me, #3 sounded smoother on this guy - his phrasing was such that I liked the smoothness #3 gave. #3 sounds like the SM-7b to me.
EDIT: Duh. I didn't read your whole post - there's the mic list...
Hard to say with that lighting... you never see a logo or even a front shot of the mic. You can tell it's tapered from top to bottom; could be anything from a MXL 2001 to a Neumann U87. Maybe even one of those new TLM 67's that are tapered the same way the U87's are.
I've seen one of those...
I missed what type of software you're recording to... That will dictate how you set up a tracking session, but in general, you would just set up a mono track in your session, set it's input to the corresponding mono input where the signal is coming from, and the default pan should be dead center.
+1 on the AD2022. The VT-737SP is a beast, too.
If you want a flat-out, fantastic pre without the "frills," also check out the Avalon M5. You don't have to spend $2500 to get a pre that sounds like you did.
Correct. You don't need to go splitting to multiple inputs; it's only reducing the
strength of your signal. Record to one, then pan up the middle in your software.
Small detail, but one thing I really like about mixmkr's desk is the door on one of "pedestals." I could see one lining the inside of that pedestal with foam and putting the computer in there to keep the noise down in the control room. This is a common design feature of a number of Middle...
OK, there's your problem. A "TRS-to-2" cable is actually set up as an insert. Of the "2," one is getting the tip signal, the other the ring signal.
You want to use either a TRS-TRS or TS-TS cable from the Behri's output into the input of either left or right on the soundcard, but not both.
Prestomation,
I really dug this. Great tune; the vocal is very heartfelt and the performance is excellent.
I felt a little like the vocal got lost in the double bass as the strings came in. I was really digging the vocal and would like to hear it stand out a little more at that point...
If memory serves me, the 888 can import/export .wav files. Cubase may be bundled, but it's by no means the only editing software you could use with the 888. If your "new to you" Mac has GarageBand, you could edit tracks there and export .wav files for transfer back to the 888, or you could try...
inac,
I did a little research at the Behri site. According to their specs, it appears that the line option on the Mic800 is getting about 10-12dB less gain than the main mic input. Max gain on the mic input is +60dB, which is more than plenty for your SM57. That's why I wondered if you were...
inac,
I don't know why this other fellow doesn't seem to be reading any of your original post. As I understand, you're using an adapter cable (XLR->1/4") between the 57 and the Behri, then running the Behri's output through a Y-cable to the Audiophile soundcard.
You might be losing some...
No, you are correct. Tad is, surprisingly, not up to par with his German. Odd, because he has apparently been using only the U87 for some time. Perhaps he doesn't get out much... or interact with human beings other than his dope supplier. :D
Dumb? Absolutely. But still can't compare to everyone's good friend, Tad Donley. Here's another gem from everyone's favorite half-baked home studio "expert": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N97iKNdfVTs
Remember, kids. No microphone can ever sound good, unless it's a U87. AKG mics...
Here's how to set up a template for "standard" projects in Logic or Logic Express. I use these every day, as all of my voiceover projects start the same way - with a couple of tracks for voice set up with my preferred VO channel settings, plus empty tracks for both audio loops and software...
Whadd'ya know... I never looked at that "add automation" window. So it does.
It's been so long since I had even opened GarageBand for a project... I used to use it every once in a while to track a quick VO, but now that I've got my templates set up in Logic I can work just as fast with more...
