Not the best shots of the new space, but here is a little tour that I threw together for my site. It has some pans of the equipment and recording space.
Agreed. SDC for the hats. Assuming you're using a spaced pair of condensors for overheads, adding another mic above the ride cymbal is just asking for phase problems. If the ride just isn't loud enough (which I doubt) and you must mic it, make sure the overhead is at least 3x as far from the...
There are too many variables to give you a definitive answer, but in general:
A. Deal with the bass frequencies in the corners first.
B. Deal with primary reflection points next.
C. In your case, probably provide some separation just for the sake of the people in the adjoining room...
Can you describe the setup? I'm assuming that you have some Avid or M-Audio interface that is sync'ing MIDI back and forth to the Yamaha... If the Yamaha is transmitting MTC and ProTools is reading MTC (at the same frame rate), then it should sync up.
To be fair, I run Native and not SE, so...
 Control surfaces don't "sum". Explain what you want here.
I think it's safe to say we don't understand what you want... The Nucleus is a fine board and can handle several banks of tracks. The AWS-series is a completely different animal, designed for tracking lots of inputs at...
Sounds like a long plate with a big predelay setting. You can hear a distinct gap between the main vocal track and when the reverb wash kicks in.
Seeing as how it was the early 80's, this was probably an AMS unit or a Lexicon 224. I think those ended up on more than half of every record made...
As I was driving home this afternoon, I was listening to a classic rock station and a through crept into my mind about a Tony Maserati interview I read recently. In the interview, Maserati mentions something to the degree of "I mix the music to support the vocal"; essentially that the vocal...
I recently completed the studio at our new house in the Kansas City suburbs and thought I would make a brief post here on how it was made. This is my “combo” room... As is the case with many of you, both tracking and mixing are done in a single room.
The dimensions are not exactly ideal, but...
Man, thanks for posting these. It's a lot of fun hearing what other people are working on. I've never worked on metal music, so this was interesting to play around with:

I just completed my new studio build about a week ago (pictures in another thread) and thought I would post a short sample of a little experiment that I did before and after construction.
First off, a disclaimer: The audio sample posted here is not intended as any sort of "final mix", rather...
I would suggest reading some of the FAQ's and stickies in the newbies forum here on HR before you go any further. You can find information on what preamps/interfaces are and what they do, as well as many varied opinions on different models. A USB mic is just a mic with a cheap preamp & USB...
Yes. Personally, I would steer clear of USB microphones if you can help it (unless you're just dead set on having the yeti). I would always opt for a separate mic and preamp/interface.
That said, if you want to start inexpensively and insist on a USB mic, the Yeti would be a big step above...
Welcome to the forums. I also focus primarily on voiceover work for commercials and corporate videos, and I use a few different types of software.
To get started, I can simply say that you do NOT need to purchase Pro Tools to begin auditioning for voice jobs. In fact, I would strongly...
If your friends/colleagues are also using Cubase, they can simply send you the project folder (including the project file and supporting audio/MIDI files). If they are on another DAW, best to have them export each individual track as a separate .wav file, which you can then import on your side...
