Art Tube MP I heard of a lot of people being satisfied over using this mic tube preamp as a bass direct box...it makes sense. I'm gonna get me one of these.

Art Tube MP to the rescue! I heard a lot of people loving the tone of using the Art Tube MP as a direct box for the bass. Plug the bass guitar into the Tube MP (of course, let the tube warm for a while first), then plug the Tube MP into a line level input on the 8 track. I never did this myself...

The person said it was worth $200...I don't know how valid that is, I never checked the prices on these things...

Overheads? I'm getting a pair of Rode NT1s ($169 each at zzounds.com)...large diaphragm condensors, they are. A favorite around this board. Recording Engineer will recommend the Oktava MC012's (buy them from The Sound Room only), but those are rather pricey ($279 a piece...$689 for matched...

Do you know exactly what model number he uses? Steve Albini is an engineer who has recorded some of my favorite bands (Nirvana, the Pixies, the Bennies), and I admire him greatly. I know he uses reel to reel, now I know what brand and # of tracks...got the model number too?

Two most popular are the AKG D112 (sells for about $220) and the Audio Tecnica ATM25 ($140). I myself am going to buy the ATM25 from the recommendations on this board.

pjs12, the 234 is actually a 4 track cassette recorder...the 238 is the 8 track version. Basicly, the reel to reel beats out any cassette recorder as far as the quality. You gotta look at the fact that the reels are much wider (on an 8 track, they range from 1/4" to maybe even 2") and record at...

Actually, it can be adjusted with a little work-around...what do you do? Record absolute silence for...let's say...30 seconds. When it's done, copy that silence, and paste it over and over and over....till you get as long as you need. If you have lots of extra hard drive space, save the X minute...
