    Drum Mic Packages

Spider, I believe the NT1s do a very good job on drum overheads...I'm pretty sure that's a favorite method among the people on this board. Anyone have any good/bad stories about NT1s on overheads?

<--new owner of 424. I needs some help!

I came from exactly where you are...I got a 424MKIII and I wanted to do just what you are doing. Well, after playing around with stuff I found the most suitable method. As for channel 5 and 6 go, all I know is that they are line level channels, meaning you have to use the 1/4" inputs. I think...

    RODE NT-1 & NT-2

Word of advice Just to let you guys know, local music stores (chain or mom & pop) are willing to match prices. Print out the webpage from zzounds.com, write down the 1800 number (so they can call and verify if need be) and you are set. I know for sure Guitar Center does. I'd assume Mars and Sam...

    bass guitar recording techniques?

Art Tube MP I heard of a lot of people being satisfied over using this mic tube preamp as a bass direct box...it makes sense. I'm gonna get me one of these.

searching for that killer bass tone

Art Tube MP to the rescue! I heard a lot of people loving the tone of using the Art Tube MP as a direct box for the bass. Plug the bass guitar into the Tube MP (of course, let the tube warm for a while first), then plug the Tube MP into a line level input on the 8 track. I never did this myself...

    Drum Mic Packages

Overheads? I'm getting a pair of Rode NT1s ($169 each at zzounds.com)...large diaphragm condensors, they are. A favorite around this board. Recording Engineer will recommend the Oktava MC012's (buy them from The Sound Room only), but those are rather pricey ($279 a piece...$689 for matched...

    16 track reel to reels..

Do you know exactly what model number he uses? Steve Albini is an engineer who has recorded some of my favorite bands (Nirvana, the Pixies, the Bennies), and I admire him greatly. I know he uses reel to reel, now I know what brand and # of tracks...got the model number too?

    condensor kick drum mics

Two most popular are the AKG D112 (sells for about $220) and the Audio Tecnica ATM25 ($140). I myself am going to buy the ATM25 from the recommendations on this board.

    belt replacement

jay, I would suggest going to http://www.tascam.com and posting the same question on their PortaStudio message board...they are always quick to answer (I'd suggest emailing them, but they take much longer to respond with emails).

    234 vs. reel

pjs12, the 234 is actually a 4 track cassette recorder...the 238 is the 8 track version. Basicly, the reel to reel beats out any cassette recorder as far as the quality. You gotta look at the fact that the reels are much wider (on an 8 track, they range from 1/4" to maybe even 2") and record at...

    String Gauge?

I use Fender Super 250s (09-42) on my Jag-Stang...I love these strings. I'm very intrigued by the Stainless 350s, or even the Stainless Bullets. Anyone ever try these? Since they are stainless, would they last longer? My strings tend to lose their 'flavor' after a while...I'm wondering if the...

    Analog recording

Actually, it can be adjusted with a little work-around...what do you do? Record absolute silence for...let's say...30 seconds. When it's done, copy that silence, and paste it over and over and over....till you get as long as you need. If you have lots of extra hard drive space, save the X minute...

    Do-It-Yourself Cables!

Thanks for the reply...actually Rec Eng, I found an old email message where you told me exactly what you use...at the time you said: "I'm still considering what I want to use for instrument cable. Right now I'm just using the Canare L-4E6S, but I'll be replacing it soon with something else...
