    Rode NT1 or AKG 2000B??

TOM! Quick! I'm going to save you $30...go to zzounds.com and look up the Rode NT1, it's $169 there. Print it out and take it to Guitar Center with your receipt. They have a 30 day lowest price guarantee, and they WILL price match from zzounds. They did for me on the NT1. Oh, and yes the NT1 is...

    Starting own studio

I probably would record the jazz band...I should have been a little more specific. I wouldn't go record a rap band, techno, metal, pop...I have strong likes and dislikes when it comes to music, and those are some great dislikes in my eyes. Go ahead and call me closeminded, I'm just specific in...

    Fender Roc Pro 1000

Any opinions on this head plus a Roc Pro GE-412 4x12 cab? I played it at low volumes at Guitar Center and man did it sound good...you could feel it in your gut. Anyone have one?

    Preamps

Gere Junkie Have you tried the Art Tube MP? Or did you just go with the Blue Tube? I'm in the same situation as happy hour, and I'm stuck between the Presonus and ART. Someone wanna help?

    Starting own studio

If you want to be elitest as to who you record, do what I plan on doing when I plan on recording bands...Scout local shows, go up to bands and ask if they want to record with you. That way, you don't have 5000 people knocking at your door, and you don't have to worry about music you're less...

    Tone contol settings for recording?

Get a good condensor or two, and some SM57s. NT1s are nice large diaphragm condensors, which run at $169 each from zzounds.com (local retailers will most likely price match if you print out the page), SM57s run at $79 each now a days I believe. Remember, condensors need phantom power. Rolls...

    Recording vocals

Would anyone care to speak against running the mic into a guitar amp and running the line out from the amp into a direct box, then into the console? Cause that's what I'm starting to do to add reverb to my vocals. And it doesn't sound bad at all.

a rode is not a rode

Really? Is the sound difference that bad? I mean, is it totally out of the question to use two seperately bought NT1s as drum overheads? Can't you EQ them to sound the same? Or is it too obvious?

    Studio Set Up

You could always record everything onto a reel to reel, then mix it down onto your computer and edit what you want. That would be the best thing to do.

    Transistor radio mix

I'm also wondering this myself and have explored into the realms of this technique. I've found that Frank Black (then Black Francis) from the Pixies used this technique in one of the songs off the Pixies album Bossanova called "All Over the World". He recorded the talking part using a CB radio...

    i want more tracks

If I remember correctly, the 488MKII has 2 XLR inputs...still not that great. And yes, without mic preamps, the sound isn't as great. Assuming you want to stick with analog cassette recorders (good choice I might add), take a look at the 238, which is a rackmountable 8 track recorder, which...

    Tape Speed problems

Does the 414 have a tape speed control on it? If so, make sure it's set correctly on Normal or High, whichever you recorded on.

I Don't Want to Hurt You...

Not every single time...Anyway, I don't want to hurt my NT1 when applying/removing phantom power. I suppose I have to make all cable connections first then apply power, correct? How long should I wait after the power is off before removing the cable? And when I hear a "pop" sound when removing...

    Which live vocal mic for...

Shure For Sure! I had the opportunity to get backstage at some live shows at the Trocadero in Philly and 9:30 Club in DC, and they both used SM58s. I see mostly 58s, my friend's band uses 57s.

tascam 788 portastudio or cubase & computer?

The 788 is brand new...in fact, it was just released like, last week or 2 weeks ago. I've been snooping around the Tascam forums before the release and it appears it's highly anticipated. I stand by Tascam products 100%...but I'm still an analog junkie.

    Tascam 788

It's brand new, but it's also been highly anticipated. It just takes one word to describe it: TASCAM. It's gotta be good!

    $150 Range Condenser Blowout!?!?!?!?!

I use a single NT1 so far for my setup, you can get it from zzounds.com for $169, and I'm sure your local retailers will be willing to price match...Guitar Center did for me.
