    Tape Noise

Do you clean the heads? Do you demagnetize them? This is #1, you must always do this. Do you have any type of noise reduction such as DBX? If so, turn that on. If the unit is old and hasn't been taken care of, it's most likely dirty inside and that can cause extra noise. You may just want to...

What compressor/gate is best under budget?

    Isn't America/Canada 120V and everywhere else 240V? or something? I don't know, heh...

    Shure beta 52

Thanks Rec Eng, I was planning on getting the ATM25. Right now I'm using a plain old SM57 for the kick drum...it's not bad actually. Do you usually use a plastic (or whatever) beater or a felt one when recording drums? I've never heard my drummer use a plastic one, always felt...and I think the...

    Magical Mystery Switch?

Is there such a switch that when I hit it, it kicks in my pedals? For example, let's say I'm in the clean mode, and I wanna kick on the distortion and delay (2 different pedals) at once...is this possible? Better yet...is there a way to kick in my amp distortion, delay pedal, and pedal...

    Mic Advice

What do you classify as relatively inexpensive? You could get the Shure SM57 ($79, plus a cable) which is the standard for recording basicly (everyone has at least one), but you might not get that perfect clear sound with it. What you might be looking for is a good condensor mic. They're more...

    Tascam Porta Ministudio pack

Yes Go for it...it's simple but still very good. Tascam is basicly the standard in cassette multitracks. Something simple and small like that is excellent for songwriting.

    Transistor radio mix

Yeah, Sonic Youth is in their 40s...Kim Gordon is 47 (she's the oldest). I think they are immortal...they are ageless. They look the same now as they did when they started (in 81) just about. The Bennies are a great local band from the Philly/Harrisburg area...check em out if you ever hear of...

    SansAmp Classic or GT-2?

Anyone use both and like one more than the other? Is the Classic worth the extra cash? Which is more versitile? I'm looking to get some good distortion tones cause my amp isn't satisfying my needs, and I'm too loyal to cheat on it with another amp, so I figure I'd look for things to spice up our...

    The Fender P51: Good? Not?

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that they are not that great, considering they're mainly used for like, speeches and what not. They're your basic microphone if you know what I mean. But hey, I could be wrong.

    Transistor radio mix

Can't say I've heard of em...are they much like Sonic Youth? Are you a Sonic Youth fan?

Megaphone For an example of a megaphone used in a song, listen to Sonic Youth's "Mary Christ"...Kim is using the megaphone to talk...you can even hear it beep in at one point.

Great...thanks for the reply. It looks like I'll be adding a Presonus to my collection soon enough. Do you know if Guitar Center sells them?

    Fender Roc Pro 1000

I'm not really sure...I coulda sworn I read that it was all tube somewhere...and I just noticed they have a Roc Pro combo...which is like half the price. Would I be better off with the 4x12 cab though?

Homemade Kick Drum Mic project in Recording Mag

Do these DIY mics compare to, say, the ATM25? Is it better than an SM57 (which I am currently using)?

    Disabling background software

Well actually you only really need to shut down software that's accessing your hard drive a lot. You can leave your virus scanner on if it's not set to auto-check the system at X time. You are going to want to disable screen savers definately, they tend to cause the most problems. If you're on...

    Fender Roc Pro 1000

Thanks...I'm a big Fender guitar fan (that's all I really play cept for my old Samick) and I never really tried out their amps until recently. I'm just not getting enough...umph...from my Marshall VS100, so I figured I would try an all-tube amp. Very impressive.
