Analog? What about analog cassette? My Tascam 688 says turn the trim till the levels average 0db and the OL light only flickers rarely...wouldn't that be too loud and cause distortion? Since it says 'averages', would it be OK if it goes into the red, ESPECIALLY with drums?

Well, you COULD use more than 2 or 4 for drums...I wish I had 7 or 8 tracks in addition to my current 8 tracks specifically for drums...oh well.

My Tascam 688 says use C90 tapes at the most, nothing higher. And that's what I use. I also have 60 minute tapes that I'll prolly end up sticking with.

Does it HAVE to be digital? If not, look into the Tascam 688. Amazing unit, I have one, sounds excellent. Very fully featured and you can get one used (no longer made new) on ebay for less than $700 usually. If it has to be digital, take a look at the new Tascam 788.
