Man I feel like just giving up sometimes

    >I wish I could find a singer and lyrics person to collab with. I might be up for a try. I'm no singer, I could demo the fit but you definitely don't want me singing on the final thing. But - I write off-the-wall stuff that people seem to remember. If you PM me, I'll give you email and we could...

How do you decide what kind of music to write?

I second the opinion expressed by RFR above. Replicating something you like is a huge way to learn, I've done a few over the years, I even extracted Frank's voice on The Summer Wind using filters and then I put his voice into my own arrangement. Goodbye by the Pretenders gave me the most trouble...

    Stupid IS as Stupid DOES

My 2 cents on time signatures, it's about the emphasis. 4/4 might sound like 2/4 in the counting but it won't have the 2/4 feel (ONE and TWO and, etc). Likewise with 3/4 and 6/8. rev

    Trouble installing Synth1

I'm trying to get Synth1 working in Sonar 8.5.3 (the revered version :) on Windows 10. initsettings.exe was successful, reg2ini.exe was not. The error said 'nothing found in the registry' try again as Admin - but I got the same error. The .dll is recognized by the vst scan but even though...

Puzzled - Studio One, same operation doesn't work every time

I stumbled on the answer to 'Selection works sometimes but not all the time.' Selecting in the Track view DOES work! The important part is where you place the cursor. If you place the cursor higher than halfway up the clip, nothing is highlighted and G won't merge anything. If you select...

Can't get General MIDI files into Studio One

First a correction, it wasn't a zip it was a bunch of MIDI files bundled into one, so Rob above was right. Even so, it's kinda nifty that S1 can sort it all out in the time it takes you to drag. >But surely it does exactly the same when you feed it the midi file extracted from the zip? That's...

Can't get General MIDI files into Studio One

Yeah, the zip was all the tracks zipped into one. I didn't know S1 could unzip while you dragged so I did that first and then started dragging But it can and does unzip all the tracks. If you have a zip containing all the midi files for a song, you can drag the zip into the project and you'll...

Can't get keyboard to work in Studio One

Cakewalk is dead. It's Bandlab now and I have the update to Sonar Platinum which is the version they're working on. It looks as if they've done away with the Staff View, that option is disabled in the Views menu. I'll have to revive the revered version 8.5.2

Can't get General MIDI files into Studio One

Found the answer: You don't drag the files in one at a time. You drag the MIDI.zip into the project and the files are automatically decompressed and placed on a different track.

Can't get General MIDI files into Studio One

I've got plain vanilla general MIDI files for an Elvis song and I dragged one into Studio One. I got a dialog asking if I want to load General MIDI sounds for the file. I answered No. The file was not included in the project but a track was created with no MIDI instrument. I tried the same...

Can't get keyboard to work in Studio One

I knew we'd eventually get to Roman legions. You left out the fun part, Decimate meant to kill one in ten. When the Romans lost a battle decimation was a punishment, they had to draw lots and the other nine had to kill the loser. The Centurion, being down 10% would be a nōnāgintā-arion. (I had...

Can't get keyboard to work in Studio One

    >I thought Sonar was 'Cakewalk' and there is now a free version. It was, it was also 12 Tone Systems, then Roland, and now it's a Bandlab product. They are giving away Sonar Platinum for about six months and asking users to contribute to its next incarnation. I have orphaned a lot of songs in...

Can't get keyboard to work in Studio One

I've never heard of Pianoteq, what's the story? ecc83: Thanks for the thanks but I think of posting back as almost compulsory, it's the purpose of a forum. All DAWs do pretty much the same thing but they *think* differently. I was a Sonar user since it started but a lot the knowledge doesn't...

Can't get keyboard to work in Studio One

I found the answer. At the end of the very top line of icons in Kontakt, there's a symbol that looks like ->| Click that and set the input to the keyboard. That's it.

Can't get keyboard to work in Studio One

I have a 32 key dumb keyboard by M-Audio. Windows is happy with it, it shows up in S1 as 'connected' and I have it set as the Input Device - but it doesn't trigger the instrument sounds. I've tried the Octave button on the keyboard in case its set to an octave that's out of the instruments'...

Studio One - Changing the grid increment

True, but it's not difficult to make the scrolling speed exponential. The further you move the mouse, left or right, the faster it scrolls. That works for everyone.

Studio One - Changing the grid increment

I'm impatient because I work fast. When you click to place the cursor, it seems to take five minutes to appear! For me, the scrolling speed needs to be increased about 3 fold. If I put a weight on the mouse I could go for a cocktail and back before it reached the end of the song.

Studio One - Changing the grid increment

    >Does this apply to your version... Yes it does, thanks for that. I might have been a little hasty. If I changed it from 1/4 notes to 1/8 notes, I was expecting to see more lines on the grid - I had succeeded but the display of grid didn't change so I thought it wasn't working.

Studio One - Changing the grid increment

I'm trying to change the grid increment. At the moment, I've got quarter notes and I'd like to snap to eights or smaller. I've tried everything that looked obvious and I RTFM but nothing changed. How is it done? Thanks - rev
