Where I come from, standards are $1100, faded are $900, I got my standard used for $700.

even if a guitar has barely been played and isnt that old, the resale value goes down a lot after the initial purchase. so you could find a standard with very little fret wear for the price of a new studio. also the fretwork on the faded isn't great to begin with.

perhaps a Dunlop Dime Distortion? I have one (as one channel of the Doubleshot distortion) that I don't use very much, but it does a good smooth scooped mids sound, that can get chunky if you palm mute. I'd definitely suggest trying one out, and for more versatility get the doubleshot which has...

worse than the pricing on the jimmy page les paul, those charvel EVH guitars. Basswood simply isnt as expensive as mahogany, it only has one pickup, not the best floyd rose, no volume pot, square neck joint, theres just no difference from it and a 200 dollar guitar in how it looks, plays and sounds.

if you want a guitar thats not made of as good of wood, has a crappy finish (even on the good ones), cheaper hardware and bad frets, then get the faded sg. It'll take awhile to find one without those problems, but even so they're in no way the same guitar as the standard. I couldn't understand...

I had a rattle coming from my pickups before, it was the spring in the height adjustment that was rattling around. I took it out, looked at it, put it back without doing anything and the rattle was gone.

yeah I know that much, but should it be adding any distortion? and does the squished sustainless sound come from too much sensitivity or not enough?

I'm currently building a compressor pedal for guitar, an Orange Squeezer, that I got the schematic for online, and I have now completed breadboarding it to test if the schematic is right before I build a board for it. Only problem is I've never actually used a compressor before so I'm not sure...

if your intonations out it'll never be in tune over the whole fretboard, if those strings are going out of tune check the nut and bridge.

When I switched from 10's to 11's (I know, not a huge change) it needed a truss rod adjustment, I was worried about doing it myself, but my cheapness won me over and I adjusted it myself, a bit at a time then waited for it to move and it turned out great.

Screw the comment "if you need good equipment then you're not a good musician" how about if you need a million different sounds you're not a good musician??? :p stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

thats all I meant by it, I can see that some people like scooped mids, but just like anything else you shouldn't over do it.

I'm assuming you meant contour, which would scoop the mids as you turn it up. Don't go wild with that knob.
