    Capturing reverb 'settings' from analogue

Hi Mark Acoustic Mirror is an excellent product. Have you ever heard of Altiverb? Well Altiverb is a very highly regarded convolution based reverb plugin for Macintosh. http://www.audioease.com/Pages/Altiverb/AltiverbMain.html Acoustic Mirror is a DirectX version that works on the same...

    Studio Projects B3 vs. C1

Yes... but their characteristics are substantially different. I would suggest that the opposite is true. The C1 is a fixed cardioid only microphone. It is also more colored than the B3 with a fairly strong proximity effect and upper-mid presence boost. While these characteristics can make it...

    Studio Projects B1

I don't know about the Behringer but the SP's B1 is a far more neutral and less hyped sounding mic than either the C1 or the NT2. IMO it is an excellent mic for the money and, due to being less colored than the others you mentioned, is probably more versatile in it's application. Cheers

Studio Projects T3 versus Rode Classic II - any comparisons?

Point taken. As an example a T3 here retails at $1599 AUS which equates to about $750 USD. I saw a Classic II advertised about two weeks back for $1799 AUS which is around $830 USD. So a difference of only $80 USD is not much. After seeing the price on the Classic II I began to think that the...

Studio Projects T3 versus Rode Classic II - any comparisons?

That was part of a testimonial of the Studio Projects website. I know the sound of the C1 and it's not what I'm interested in as such. If anyone has any direct personal experience between the T3 and the Classic II I would be interested in hearing their opinion. The C1 is quite a hyped sounding...

Studio Projects T3 versus Rode Classic II - any comparisons?

The T3 is a multi-pattern hence the comparison with the Classic II as that is a multi-pattern as too. The NTK is not.

Studio Projects T3 versus Rode Classic II - any comparisons?

Has anyone done an A-B comparison between a T3 and a Classic II? A discounted Classic II is not much more expensive than a T3 in Australia and I'm wondering just how they compare. Cheers

    New price on SP mics

Hmmm... Are SP's mics shipped directly from China to Australia or do they arrive by some other convoluted route? Seems like we get slugged extra here even taking the exchange rate and other factors into account. I figure the SP mics should be at least 25% cheaper here in Oz than what they are in...

    Female Vocal Mic

A friend has a Studio Projects C1 and he recently recorded his sister-in-law with it. Her voice is quite strident and nasal in the upper-mids... the result?... Yeech!! BAD MATCH!! Then I tried one of my C3's which was better, but still the screech factor was a little too much. Trying to eq out...

    What's your Mic of Choice???

Should I buy 1 used AKG C541B or a matched pair of Rode NT5's???

I have four original AKG 451EB's. The newest of these I bought second hand about twelve years ago, when it was only three months old, and still in the original packaging. Upon comparing it to the three ex studio mics I'd purchased previously I found a rather dramatic difference between them all...

    Diffs between C1 and B1

The cheaper B1 is in fact more neutral than the C1. The C1 has an upper mid presence boost where the B1 has a flatter less colored response. The C1 also has greater proximity effect. A simplistic analogy would be that if you took a B1 and equipped with a loudness button you would have something...

    vocal mic

Hi Hadje How are you connecting the C1 to the Tascam? According to a review I read, the 788 doesn't come with XLR inputs. It also doesn't have phantom power... are you using an outboard micpre, if so , which one? The C1 does have an upper-mid presence boost and while this is not a horrible...

    Cheaper SM57 type mic?

G'day Jeff. SM57's are probably THE 'desert island' dynamic microphone. They will work on most things. Snares, toms, guitar amps... even raunchy bluesey type vocals. There are probably as many 57's floating around the world as there are 58's. You can't go wrong with a 57. I guarantee your album...

Members average number of rack units and a list...

That's pretty much how I see it. The MPX reverbs sound kind of 'nice' but that's the problem for me.... 'nice' and not quite right. The TC just doen't sound so 'effected'. I would not say thin or sterile... just not as thick. Granted, plenty of people do like that Lexicon sound. It's made them...

What I'm bidding on now. Opinions welcome if you've been around as long as this has.

I don't know about Mouser (I live in Australia) but Tascam often provided schematics with their products. I know my long departed Teac 3440 had schematics. Basically if you take the lid off and see a bunch of 8 or 14 pin dual opamps then it is very likely they will be upgradable. By taking note...

What I'm bidding on now. Opinions welcome if you've been around as long as this has.

I used one maybe ten years ago during a demo. Like all fully parametrics it lets you screw around a lot but you have to be judicious in using it. Setting the Q too narrow when boosting can make the sound rather phasey and nasal. Also boosting the high frequencies with a narrow Q can cause the...

What I'm bidding on now. Opinions welcome if you've been around as long as this has.

I'm not sure about this particular unit but it could be a good candidate for an op-amp upgrade. If it uses the standard pinout DIL single, dual and quad type op-amps then it will be upgradable... providing the P.S. can handle then extra current requirements. Could make a worthwhile...
