    Crit on mix

IDK for sure. I'm pretty new at this myself. First thoughts are that the drums need to come up and the lead guitar can come down a bit. The snare sounds dull, compared to what I'm used to hearing. I can't comment much on the rest of the drums or the bass becasue I could not hear them well...

vocal levels compared to other instruments

Well, I don't know why the snare would interfere. Guitars can be in the way sometimes. It depends on the track. I have started using my vocals as an external key input to trigger side chain compression on troublesome guitar tracks. Makes the parts fit together like a puzzle, and you can do...

vocal levels compared to other instruments

I've heard that a rule of thumb for a pro mix is that as you turn the volume down until it disappears, the very last things to disappear should be the vocals and snare. As far as radio vs CD verions, I though the radio version was just the CD version pumped through a 8 band multi-band...

    nonnomluvyurmom

I have a new mix called "nomnomluvyurmom" on my soundclick account page. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=1095297 This is my first time mixing vocals, and trying a lot of other new techniques. Feedback is appreciated.

    Blues Thing

Thanks for the encouragement and feedback. For the drums, I have to give credit to the Beta Monkey Drum Loops I bought and that arrived in the mail the day I recorded this. It was my first time working with audio drum loops, so I threw this together in an afternoon as a test. I did the guitar...

Guitar/amp feedback, the good type - how?

I was ust trying to be helpful. Fuck this forum. I will go elsewhere.

    Can I rock?

Virtual amps are pretty good for many applications, especially playing clean, but you can't get musical feedback with them. If you want to rock out like the classic icons who use feedback, I don't know any way to get it without micing a real amp.

    removing tape hiss

If you can't hear it except during moments of silence, then you might be able to run it out and back in through a gate, a downward expander (aka hush pedal), or my favorite, a decimator unit. It usually won't change the music at all that way. But if it is audible when the music is up, then the...

    sound Card - mbox

If you are already familiar with pro tools, maybe you will like it ust fine. But I keep hearing that there is a world of difference between pro tools and pro tools le, and it is mostly about the lack of support for le.

Guitar/amp feedback, the good type - how?

I think you might be right about needing to mute and unmute the strings to get the effect I'm talking about. I rest the side of my palm on the bridge and fold my hand to the right to "lift away." I think I'm probably touching the strings very slightly, just enough to mute and unmute them, even...

    sound Card - mbox

I started out on Logic when it was on PC. A lot of people say Logic is really complicated, but I found it easy and got great results. Then, when Logic went Mac only, I got an M Box. Boy do I hate pro tools. It's so hard to use. The instructions are lacking, and there aren't even any tags...

Recording Acoustic and Electric Guitar with Pro Tools LE

Awesome. I have one more question. I plan on panning to the sides to make room for a lead track in the center as it enters. And I plan on midscooping other tracks to make room for a mid boosted lead. Basically, I'm talking about choreographing the placement of the parts in the sonic space...

Recording Acoustic and Electric Guitar with Pro Tools LE

Thanks.:) I'm still a little shaky though on using plugins. I read another thread that said the compression won't be evident unitl you mix down. Does that mean I won't be able to hear what the compression setting sounds like until I bounce the track?

Recording Acoustic and Electric Guitar with Pro Tools LE

I've actully been recording the rhythm twice, and panning them left and right. It's problematic for me because when I work up a song, I have parts that are fixed, but then I improv fills here and there. The result is not always pretty when the two different fills conflict. The idea of...

Recording Acoustic and Electric Guitar with Pro Tools LE

I have an original M-Box running on a PC, and I want to try simply recording some fingerstyle guitar rhythms with high gain electric lead over them, and I would like some advice on recording the acoustic guitar. For the acoustic guitar, I'm playing a Taylor with a fishman prefix through a...

Trouble with latency - home recording newbie

No, I don't think it is that common. It sounds like a good idea, but if I'm not mistaken, doesn't the amount of latency change as you add tracks? If so, wouldn't the offset become inaccurate after adding a few more tracks?

Guitar/amp feedback, the good type - how?

The most important thing, first of all, is speaker choice. Celestion Vintage 30 or G12H30 or Greenback 20 or Vintage 10 will produce musical feedback, and so will Emminence Wizard. Many other speakers will just give unmusical squealy feedback. You want a brit style amp having a flat eq...

    Low-Watt tube recording amp

In that price range, I would get an Egnater Tweaker. Its $579, but you can always talk 'em down a little at the store.

Good Places to Host my Songs - free or cheap

Thanks. I have another question, please. I don't see anybody posting covers, and I certainly want to record some originals too, but it would be convenient initially to just throw together some quick mixes of songs I already have worked up and learn about how to get good results before spending...
