shure sm7 - worth the bucks?

Worth the bucks? The sm7 is like nothing. Anyways, it's great on guitar cabs... take the sm57 and the areas in which it does well and the sm7 does it all better. I've heard people say it's great on snare if you can fit it, great on toms, apparently decent on kick, great on cabs and of course...

Why is chinese a dirty word?

I am talking about the behringer B1

Why is chinese a dirty word?

The B1 is just as good as the studio projects C1 in my opinion. They both come from 797 and sound pretty similar. If anything the B1 is more versatile but they both have the same limitations. Anyways chinese mics aren't bad. But there are much better out there and if you don't hear that now...

Octava 012 vs. Marshall 603s test

I have both and like the 603s much more (at least for acoustic). The oktavas sound completely different and aren't in a different league.

    Beyer M201

I used it on vocals and liked it very much so (this is in response to the person who said they don't like it on vocals.) At least much better than a 57.

    Higher end preamp decisions

Yeah that's kind of the feeling I was getting. I'm thinking if I upgrade to a neve, get a soundelux u195 and rosetta converters I'd be good for a while... we'll see what happens. And for the guy about the brick... yeah it's the best preamp I've ever used but I haven't used much. Anyways, if...

    Higher end preamp decisions

Thanks all for the good info... I'll be back in a week and check up to see if there are anymore replies but right now it looks like it'll be either a portico or GR (I don't track as much miced electric guitar as most people). Talk to you soon.

    Higher end preamp decisions

Thanks Briefcasemanx.. that's kind of where I was going with the neve... and I guess this is a question directed at the people with extensive preamp experience... but will the neve be so great that in the long run I'll never think of picking up a sytek or twinQ (Or atc-2,etc.) or are these...

    Higher end preamp decisions

Looking to upgrade my pres with my best being the brick and I'm willing to spend maybe $1500... do you think it'd be worth it to blow it all on the neve portico or better to split up the price of the neve($1500 or so) and go with a joe meek twinQ($700-800) and the sytek 4 channel...

Which Singer is Better (two short mixes)?

A has a better tone in my opinion but sounds totally inexperienced... like if you took your friend and said sing for this song. He could learn and probably sound really decent but right now he doesn't. Either way I think he's better than the other guy.

Just bought an A-Designs MP-2 Mic pre!!!

Hey man... I have both and the SM7 is just a much higher quality mic... the best way to describe it is wider and bigger sounding than the 57. It also seems like it has less noise to me or something. The smoother comment describes it well. My 57 basically just sits now.

    Firepod owners discussion thread!

Firepod Users MUST READ! I have been using the firepod for a while successfully and love it. I downloaded this SP2 fix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885222 last night. On presonus' site they say it helps if your sync light stays red. I had no problem with that but decided to DL it anyway...

Brick loses in showdown to Behringer. wtf?!

I really disagree. Especially with budget equipment, you're never going to pick up a source exactly the way it sounds, or exactly the way you want it sound... that is why almost everyone uses EQ. If you are religiously against it, your tracks are going to show it. Some people run their tracks...

Brick loses in showdown to Behringer. wtf?!

I agree completely. The three different behringer preamps I've had (a eurorack mixer, the channel strip vocals thing, and that little one) have all had a similar sound and the best word to describe it is muffled. You may describe this as warm, but to me it was a crappy sound that I couldn't...

Just go through your cds and start taking lone hits you like. You can find a ton if you look hard enough.

what kind of mic should i get?

... I wouldn't suggest a mic when you haven't used others. The SM57 is decent... and just that... decent on everything. MD 421 is a much better choice... or even better (in my opinion) getting the e835, AT PRO 25 and say a cheap condenser like the studio projects or behringer B1. That way you...

    PSA-1 or PODxt Pro

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=23790&item=7329352479&rd=1 Not sure if it's actually the classic but I've seen it sold as that on ebay... I just assumed that's what it is. Either way, it sounds great.
