Best kick drum mic for many styles of music

I put an sm7 on kick a couple of days ago and really liked it actually. I am confident that good kick sounds could come from it. I got mine for $200 on ebay so it's in your budget if you can find a deal. I think john feldman uses it on kick.

Audio Technica 3035 or Studio Projects B1

I wasn't very clear as to why I didn't like the AT3035... every vocalist I put through it hated the way they sounded and it was dull on overheads. That's all I used it on but considering those are probably some of the most used places for an LDC, it didn't work for me. I prefer the studio...

Audio Technica 3035 or Studio Projects B1

I really disliked the 3035 but have never tried the B1. So I say whatever you do, stay away from the 3035.

    Groove Tubes GT55

Don't know about the rode but I can tell you I didn't like the GT55 on vocals. I like brighter mics though.

SM7 and SM7B the same thing? Too similar to the RE20?

SM7b has a few more features... that's the only really difference I know of.

Production Quality, What's The Big Deal?

You don't seem willing to accept the state of things so be happy that you enjoy making music. If people ask you why your songs are broken tell them to fuck off and write some more music. Whoever said music isn't science though has no idea what they are talking about. Every aspect of it is...

    Eq'ing MXL V93/2003

That's a pretty lame studio if it's professional. Works for a bedroom studio though if it's yours. And never be afraid to EQ... that's why it's there. People spend thousands on EQs alone. I don't think any budget mic is going to give you a really nice sound without some eqing.

    I still need a q10!

They're better than any of the m-audio stuff and comparable to the firepod... definately don't suck in my opinion.

    Condenser mics and wooshing noise

It's most likely moisture... put a silica packet in there or some other absorbant crap

    Great mics with smooth highs.

I hated the AT3035.... everything sounded dull and boring through it (and I mean everything... vocals, acoustics, overheads... any general rock sound). It was like a vacuum for energy.

Why Is audio only recording only Left?

Set your input to either 1 mono left or 2 mono right.... you're input is recording stereo to one track so if you are using input 1 it is left and if you are using input 2 it is right.

    mxl 2001 behringer b1 i have both

The MXL 2001 sounds a bit like a behringer B1 with lower headroom and a nasty "rigid" high end I'd say. I've owned both at one point and still support the behringer B1 against other mics in it's price range.

    Firepod pres VS. RNP

the firepod pres aren't that bad :P but they are pretty bad. Put it this way... if you go and spend $500 on a preamp which is about the price of a new firepod... the preamp is going to sound better than the EIGHT preamps on the firepod... if you bought a $500 converter it's going to sound...

    Maybe a tinnitus helper

Don't know anything about that but NAC, which can be purchased at most vitamin stores, has been shown to stop deafness in guinea pigs in some article. I've been using it and haven't had ringing or muffled hearing for years (I also use earplugs a lot however).
