so every mic sounds different for every voice how do I

If you're going to bump through a dozen or more mics, it might be worth while to book some studio time at a studio that has a dozen or more mics (and some decent preamps). Maybe hook up with a band that's already booked the time, and partake during their breaks. Whatever works. The difference...

    Any suggestions for mics?

Per mic / channel? ;) How many drums? Which is the main issue IMO. 5 drums + 3 cymbals + .... Even at $50 a mic, that's $400, not including stands and cables.

Getting a really bad buzz from my akg c3000

2 is hot, 3 is not, or something like that. Which would make 1 a ground I guess. If it comes and goes, you might have jiggled something, or it was a humidity type issue. My vote goes towards something humidity wise in your case. But just a guess.

Getting a really bad buzz from my akg c3000

Check other things too. Is the A/C cranked? The washer / dryer going? The dishwasher? The guy next door put up his christmas lights early and turned them on? Has it been extra humid in proximity of the mic? (vocals) Check another mic if you have it to rule out the rest of the signal chain.

Radio presenter & home studio noob, looking for a building-block mic!

A lot of interfaces come with a microphone preamp, so you don't need the mixer to boost the signal. If that's what you need it for. If you plan on having a live show, and a bunch incoming calls and such, I could see a need for a mixer. Otherwise your interface (when you get one, if you didn't...

    Speakers humming.

There's power conditioners and UPS's. And inverters to clean up the power supplied. I've got all devices that run on batteries at the point of capture, so I avoid a lot of these issues just with that. Plus no fan noise and such. Not without other issues though. Motor boating / phantom power...

We were supposed to keep our sanity? I thought that that was something that we had to check at the door.

    Speakers humming.

You could cable it from a 3.5mm (line out) to TS (unbalanced) outputs. 3.5mm Y cable to RCA, probably an RCA to RCA cable for reach, and an RCA to TS adapter (large mono headphone jack looking thing 1/4"). But if you get a better soundcard, it will likely have TRS outputs (balanced). And you...

    Speakers humming.

Cheap soundcards do this humm thing. The fix is to get a better sound card. The cabling doesn't help much either. Factor in that the inside of a computer is an electronically noisy environment, which also contributes to the problem. I ran into the same issue when I plugged my computer into...

Radio presenter & home studio noob, looking for a building-block mic!

Mmmm... Salt + Vinegar chips... To retain my Douche-ness. WHAT IS YOUR BUDGET? (squiggly) L 5? By all means use the mic in your iPhone. But the competition will be using an EV RE-20. If you ever get a guest spot on someone else's radio show, you'll likely be using the EV RE-20 or SM7b...

Radio presenter & home studio noob, looking for a building-block mic!

I generally use an AT3035 for any voice work (more like play). $100-ish used. With an sE reflexion filter to help isolate the room. But it requires phantom power. Which pretty much all of my preamps supply, so not really an issue for me. But for you, you'll probably need a pop filter ($50)...

Radio presenter & home studio noob, looking for a building-block mic!

What is your budget? $5.00 EV RE-20 is about as good as it gets on the cheap end (< $500). Or EV RE-27. I'm assuming all these voice over deals pay you in real money? And not just some non-profit charity work. Not that it'd be enough money to live on, but it should be able to buy you an EV...

Please help!! Im havin problems with a M-Audio usb Microphone and a usb soundcard!!!

Do you have active speakers in proximity of the mic? (i.e. echo / aka feedback light) You should (in theory) be able to use them. But.... You'll have some latency issues I think. And maybe some clock issues since different chips never completely match clocks / timing wise. Artifacts and/or...

Good mic for modern R&B/Pop Style Music? Have youtube example video. Identify mic?

At first glance I thought Sm7b, but wrong mounting system / cabling. And it's a wire mesh, not a small foam. Plus that whole pointed in the wrong direction thing. It certainly appears to be of the AT40xx type. Perhaps a 4040 or 4033. More likely the 4040. At least the one that the producer...

    KEL HM-7U vs HM-2D

There were samples of them in use on Kel's site. Or was it some other site? About two years ago when I was looking at 2x HM-7U's as a stereo pair. I definitely preferred the 7u to the 2d at that time. The 2d just seemed a little dull / muffled to me. On the available samples anyway. I've...

    Best "belter" mic?

Dynamic mics and Ribbon mics are pretty tolerant of high SPL levels. I like my STO-2's. SPL rating > 140dB. They handle 100+ person brass lines without issue. And without changing character on you. Unlike a few other mics I've tried over the years. Not that it matters much, if you've got a...

Is a Flat Response Graph Mic ideal for vocals?

Relative volume(s). Seems like the drums are softer than the vocals, and the guitar is way louder than the vocals. And when it gets busy and it's no longer just the three voices, you can't even make out the vocals (however short lived). IMO drums up in volume, guitar down in volume. As it...

Is a Flat Response Graph Mic ideal for vocals?

From what I heard earlier, if the guitar tracks were mic'd and not DI'd, I'd probably swap the mic you were using for vocals with the one you were using on the guitar. Otherwise kind of an odd mix given that the vocals were so backing track, not melody. (proportionally). Or I could be wrong.

    Any suggestions for mics?

Buy one that works. Hopefully you find that out before forking over your cash. Beyond that a little more info would help. Budget? Source? Otherwise buy a pearlman, neumann, and whatever other mics that start off expensive and keep going until you've passed on buying a couple of automobiles...

Is a Flat Response Graph Mic ideal for vocals?

A flat response can be more transparent. What you hear is what you get. Which doesn't always work well for vocals. The spoken word generally requires a bit of high end boost for word clarity. And in that regard a flat response mic can come off sounding kind of dark or dull on vocals. But it...
