    Guitar amp combo

What type of half-stack do you have? Do you want to replicate it's sound in a smaller package? Do you want a more versatile combo? Tube/SS/Digital? Recording/Live? My friend (guitar player in my band) and I have gotten some wicked heavy tones out of a Line 6 2x12 amp on tape. It's not...

    Favorite Ozzy Axe-Man???

I'm glad more people than me recognize what a terrible tone Randy had. His playing, however, was phenominal. Tony and Zakk have much better tones. As far as who the superior player is/was, I'd say Randy. As far as influential, Tony, definately. As far as my favorite (and the greatest...

    Whats needed for computer?

Assuming you have a PC) Double click on the colume/speaker control. It's in the lower right, by the clock. If it's not there, go Start->Programs->Accessories->Entertainment->Volume Control. First, make sure that no boxes are checked "Mute", then turn the faders up to a moderate (70%) level...

    How about Most Overated Bassists?

Mike Inex (from later Alice in Chains, Jar of Flies on) is a great bassist. I think he played with Ozzy too? His melodic lines really added some extra color to AIC's brooding sound.

    Question about bass guitars.

Try an Ibanez, Yamaha and both Jazz and P-basses. Thay all play and sound different, and I'm sure you'll find something in there you'll like.

    Tricking out a bass

The older (definately pre-CBS, I'm not sure how far back) P-Basses had this thumb rest. If I remember correctly, it was mounted right along the pickguard somewhere above the pickup. Really, you can mount it anywhere that is comfortable for you. The first model had it mounted [i]below[/] the...

    How about Most Overated Bassists?

I agree with Matt Freeman, he's one of my biggest influences in my current band. John Paul Jones is unbelievably awesome, especially on II (Lemon Song, What is...) I disagree with Cliff Burton. I think was as good as everyone gives him credit.

How do I get this tone?

Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Sir Psycho Sexy" I know it's probably a Strat, but what effect is on there? (Specifically during the chorus and verses when he's just hitting chord stabs... not the wah part) Is it a chorus? Flange? Phase? What are some estimated settings? Thanks :)

    Tones to die for!

I can't remember the settings, but I was playing my Les Paul w/ a SD JB pickup through an old bassman my friend was borrowing. I'm pretty sure it was almost maxed out. If I recall correctly, I was also using a slight clean boost. I think I saw God that night. :D My fingers were hurting so...

    What's your favorite Guitar tone/sound?!

I'm a big fan of the Les Paul neck w/ tone rolled back sound. Slash at his finest... ;) I also love the crunch of 'Sad but True' from Metallica and Zakk Wylde's tone from his BLS stuff.

Guitar Speaker Cabinet Ohm setting question

Hey bro, I'd just run it in full stereo. Is the POD stereo? You might be able to get some cool chorus and delay tones by keeping it stereo. You just have to be careful with the upper limits of the volume knob. If you want a perfect match: Amp running in bridged mono (600W @ 8 ohms) Cab set to...

    Ya'll wanna hear me??? (song)

Wow, real impressed here... no critiques since I don't know what I'm talking about, but damn that sounds sweet. :)

    Let's start from the beginning

Thanks for the reply. :) In the mean time I've been digging up threads and I'm wondering if 2 SM57's, a Beta52, and two condensers can cover it all? If I choose the condensers in a way that they will work for drum overheads as well as acoustic instruments and voice? Maybe a medium diaphragm...

    Let's start from the beginning

I was trying to get down as much info as possible in order to help out the advice. Let's see, music is alternative rock, we'll say. It's harder edged, but vocal style ranges from sensitive ballads to louder singing, but never screaming, etc... (I wasn't happy with the SM-58 for the vocals...

    Let's start from the beginning

Ok, let me first start by describing my situation. I'm in a band, we play gigs and like to record. We've recorded on Cakewalk with some nice results using whatever collection of mics (nicest being an SM-58) through a 4 track as a mixer and into a stock computer soundcard. I had a Bellari tube...

    Newbie Soundcard

Let's say I went with the Maya44. It appears as though I could only record 4 tracks at once, without an output, right? Like I wouldn't be able to record 4 sources and have a monitor on as well, right? With the Inca88 and the Delta44 it looks like I'd be able to acutally give each source a...

    Newbie Soundcard

I'm looking to upgrade my soundcard from the stock one in my computer now. I'm thinking mid-range here, I don't need (nor can I afford ;)) a $1000 card. Do any come with XLR inputs? The ability to record 4 tracks simultaneously would be great. What are some brands/models to look at? Sorry...

2 seperate channels same as mono

Just double track your guitars, one panned hard left, one hard right. If you've never done it before, it really opens up the recording. If you can combine that with stereo drums, then you 'll be amazed at how big your mix sounds.

Should I be able to get a "decent" vocal track out of this...

Ok... this is all beginning to make a bit more sense... The sound is definately a 'live" sound, and what I'm looking for IS a fat studio sound. Yep, that's the compressor, and I used preset #1. Thanks for the link, I'll check it out. :)

Keeping sound from bouncing all over the room with plaster walls for better vocals???

Nice pic! Did you do it in paint? I'd see if you could hang some blankets on the wall some way. It's cheaper than foam since you already have them, and they might sound fine... Since it's your voice and not a Marshall stack, I think that just covering up the flat, solid surfaces with...
