SERIOUSLY COOL, GUYS !!!!!
The only thing that I've done differently so far is instead of plugging my ADAT sends and returns into the bay, I just ran the channel inserts to the bay.
I haven't noticed any noise yet, but I haven't tried every possible combination. I did buy decent cables and...
AMEN !!!
I'm taking a break from setting mine up right now. It's become apparent that there are different ways that this can be done. I've got wires, manuals and little PC cards laying all over the frickin' place.
A FAQ that included things like "What are Normalled, Half -Normalled, Split and...
I did, a long time ago. It was a modified "Heathkit". I don't know if they're even around anymore. It was a great learning experience, but it sounded like crap.
You'll probably have better luck.
Thanks Larry. I figured that was the case. I just thought I'd check and see if I was forgetting something. I'd hate to smoke my new rack.
Recording Engineer,
If I understand this, you're saying that I CAN mix balanced and unbalanced gear if I make a cable that (short version) that connects the...
Yeah, I know what you mean about trusting someone. I have an electric that needs a re-fret and I can't seem to find anyone that I trust either. I moved to St. Louis from L.A. about 5 years ago and I haven't found a good luthier here yet. I'm sure there are some, I just haven't found them.
It's...
Okay, I've installed rack rails into the computer type desk that I use for my recording gear and it looks really..... uh, functional.
Anyway, once I got all my toys mounted, it didn't take me long to figure out that I needed a patch bay. So, I went down and bought one. After more deliberation...
Good point about the star grounding scheme, sonusman. The difference between that and standard house wiring is that the grounds from individual oulets are normally connected to each other, rather than to a single point. It's much easier to do it that way and it requires less wire.
The problem...
You're right. It's tuned down a fifth, according to their web site. Like I said, I didn't get a chance to play it, I was relying on what the sales droid told me. I should know better than that by now.
Absolutely!!! Make your own.
Back when these things were popular the first time, most of the guys that I knew used home-made ones, including myself.
All you need is the driver out of horn speaker, like you'd see at a high school football stadium, some 1/2" I.D. rubber tube, an old stomp box with...
It depends on how far you want go ( read: how much you want to spend ). Dedicated circuits, like Dom Franco describes, are a must if your looking for really clean power. That plus an isolated earth ground, just for those circuits, is a good idea also.
If you want to go past that, you get into...
Yeah, I looked at those too, didn't get to play it though. Cool idea. They're a full octave lower than a standard axe. Might be an interesting alternative to tuning down or using a seven string.
There's really only one right wat to do this, in my opinion.
You'll need -
a bottle of de-natured alcohol
a bottle of rubber cleaner
a bunch of lint free swabs
a wand type de-magnetizer
What the second salesman was telling you is that what's good for metal isn't good for rubber and vice...
There should be another number besides the voltage on the capacitor. This is the capacitors size in farads, usually micro-farads. The voltage rating isn't nearly as important, but go larger rather than smaller.
You also need to get the same type of capacitor. Electrolytic, Ceramic disk, etc...
I'm looking to EQ my monitors and to give me a little more flexiblity over what's on my board to use at mixdown.
The BSS that I was looking at is a dual 30 band, Model FCS-966. DBX has a model 2231 that's a dual 31 band. Both are pretty pricey for a glorified tone control.
I'll probably end up...
