Recommendation on which keyboard for newbie wanting to learn how to play?

No no... not college! I meant like a music lesson type of school. I don't know what it's like where you are, but here, every major music equipment store has a lesson center as well. I'm just thinking you should try it out first. Maybe rent a key board for awhile. Heck, rent a different one...

What should I do with this Roxul??

I watched an in-store demo on the product when it first started to appear on the market. Guy showed us the bread knife cutting technique, and most interestingly, the fire resistance. He took a butylene torch to the bare product and just held it there. It didn't even scar the product. It...

Getting good kick recording with Shure 52A

I'd like the flexibility of multi-mic'ing the drum, but I'm saving for reference monitors at the moment. $250 bucks for another mic will have to wait for another day. From the sounds of it, I am my own worst enemy here. I need to check the tuning on my drum, and learn to hit it right by the...

Getting good kick recording with Shure 52A

That always seems to be the way doesn't it? :laughings: Ok so sounds like I really need to focus on the sound my drum makes on it's own. Thanks to all so far for giving me a point in the right direction.

hello, I would like tips on how i can improve.

Well there's certainly no shortage of links if you google "online vocal lessons". I have personally used the products from Home | Vocal Coach. Their programs are well structured, and I had good success with their breathing and diction exercises.

Getting good kick recording with Shure 52A

Both excellent suggestions. I will check my drum itself. Out of curiosity, does it make sense to try and tune the drum to resonate in the peak response frequencies of the microphone itself? Or am I overthinking this now?

Getting good kick recording with Shure 52A

So the Shure 52A super cardoid dynamic microphone.... What the deal with this mic? I've been messing around trying to get a decent recording of my kick drum, but everything I try sounds like garbage! I've tried up against the res head in various places. Nothing. I tried hooding the bass drum...

Recommendation on which keyboard for newbie wanting to learn how to play?

Age is a terrible excuse. If you want to learn, then you will find a way to make it happen. I Learned to play a guitar ("play" is used loosely.. :guitar: ) when I was 20. I'm now forty, and started taking lessons to figure out how much I never learned. It's fascinating how much we can fool...

hello, I would like tips on how i can improve.

Hi there. You have a lovely voice, but there's no real power behind it. You're tone is a little wobbly to start with, but when you start to push it, it really falls apart. If you are serious about trying to improve, practice with focus on doing it right. There's no magic words someone here can...

What's the best notes to use in a song?

Ok...I'm new here, so I'm still learning the degree of sarcasm that some members employ....and it runs pretty thick apparently. I am admittedly baffled as to the vagueness of the question by the OP who is a 7K plus posted member of long standing. Maybe it was a thought that randomly escaped...

Did I just throw out $50?

Solid deal there PT. I have the AT2020 as well (got it in two pack with the AT2021 for $170). I have great success with the 2020 for vocals, drum room mic, and acoustic guitar. It is a very mellow sounding mic in my untrained opinion.

How many notes can you lift before it becomes plagiarism?

    Noted. Thank you :)

What should I do with this Roxul??

That is the reason why I like the roxul product myself. My wife on the other hand would have preferred if they didn't tell us in demos that the bread knife works well. She is now missing the 10" bread knife from the kitchen...:laughings:

How many notes can you lift before it becomes plagiarism?

Greg has pretty much nailed it. I'm no lawyer, but for what it's worth, I believe that you can parody anything without fear. Take a look at the most famous parody maker...Weird Al. He can parody anything, nearly note for note, with different lyrics obviously. He himself has stated that he...

Please rate me...Can I sing at all? Should i just forget it? Thanks for your honesty!

Your voice is like any other part of your body. If you exercise and train it, it will get better. Like running a marathon...you won't do well if you just jump up to the start line and go, but if you train for it, then you will do well. If you take 30 minutes a day training your posture...

What should I do with this Roxul??

That's the main point right! Interesting that the roxul comes in 2" thicknesses. I've never seen that at my local building supply store. Will have to keep that in mind.

Looking for Vocal Recording Tips and Tricks

Oh and one more thing...don't forget to exercise and warm up your vocal chords and breathing muscles before you start. Too often overlooked those are.

Looking for Vocal Recording Tips and Tricks

I use the AT2020 as well. Very good mic for the price point. Just a simple pop filter in front of it.. about 6" off. Set your gain properly for how loud you plan to sing. Then let her rip. You can mess about with EQ on the raw file (sorry assuming you are using digital recording..). I messed...
