Hi Beagle. Welcome to the forum. I'm a total noob here too, and I figured out very quickly, as has been proclaimed in this thread, that there are some very experienced home recorders here. Nearly every question gets answered here, from the most mundane and pointless, to the most technically...
Ask the courts in your jurisdiction for their policy on electronic devices in the courts. In my jurisdiction, electronic devices are allowed. This is usually restricted though, and the restrictions are publicly available. The biggest restriction on recording is that the recording can only be...
I am not versed in reading sheet music, so I definitely don't write a score for my music.
I do however tab out the parts for lead and bass guitar with a tab writing program. I also create a basic drum groove for the drummer to work with. I play all the parts for a rough track, then then everyone...
Money to spend on room:
- coat of paint $50
- Bass Traps/Ceiling Cloud (DIY) $300
Money to spend on good gear to be able to have fun in confined space:
- $19,650
Seriously...don't waste such a generous budget on things that won't do anything to help you have fun. My preference, if given a...
I couldn't agree more with what mjb says.
The biggest problem you face is the small size of the room already. Anything you add starts to eat up precious real estate for your jam room.
I have had to suffer with small spaces to play/practice in with my bandmates. But it's not impossible with a...
Harder than you thought it would be,I bet! ;)
First of all....loosen up on the reverb. The amount you have injected on your voice is awful.
As for your voice...It needs some training and practice. Particularly in pitch control. Learn to breath properly while singing. It will help you smooth...
Both mics appear to have a similar frequency response. The benefit of the Zoom H4n however, is that you are getting a nice little stereo recording out of a single unit, and it has more functionality than the stand alone Blue yeti.
With that said though, perhaps you could try a comparison...
Obviously, Tina Turner used them some time ago...they are Simply the Best chords....
Even google agrees! Simply The Best Chords by Tina Turner @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com
:thumbs up:
Very cool! the cost factor is certainly my main motivation to build it myself.
Good idea to keep one side available for future expansion. I'll probably house the units I already have in a smaller top side rack, and leave the space for the future as you suggest.
Anyone ever tried these tactile or strobe metronomes?
Peterson Strobe Tuners - BBS-1 Wireless Pulsating Metronome
I dislike the click in my ear myself and often use a synthetic drum track, but I am curious if a tactile metronome would be natural to adapt to or get ignored while you are rocking...
So, as my studio (aka a room in the basement) is coming to shape quite nicely. Still have to finish the floors and figure out some more treatment in the room. But in the mean time, I am going to turn to my other hobby, which is woodworking, and build a nice functional workstation.
Key features...
Problem with the drummer following the guitars is that the tempo will suffer. It always does. The guitarists listen to the drummer who is the time keeper. But if the drummer is trying to match the timing of the guitar players, who are trying to match the timing of the drummer, then all hell...
This is a big one for sure!
If you rely on samples or loops for some of the backgrounds, and your drummer can't play the consistent tempo, then it sounds like garbage. The flavour of the groove comes from the rhythm and timing that the players are using on their instruments. Maybe hitting early...
Ok...here's an expansion on the question. How much of a factor is the USB port speed?
I use the Firestudio so I am bringing the data into the computer with firewire.
How about if I pickup an external drive, with a higher speed than my existing HDD. Then I try to record to the external drive...
That's a good idea if it's an option. Go read your script somewhere more peaceful and edit later.
Otherwise the only other thing I might consider if you can't find a better place to record, is to build a gobo to put your mic inside of. Might help filter the outside noise a little.
As a non technical solution, is there a better space you can use to get away from the noise?
The only technical solution I can think of is to consider a better mic with a tighter cardioid unidirectional pattern. Hyper cardioid may not be a good idea as the backside of the pattern tends to...
It is a good place for people new to the whole home recording thing to ask their questions though. I just offered my "opposing view" that your post was not much help in terms of the very direct questions the OP had asked. Sorry to have ruffled your feathers sir.
Carrying on as suggested. :)
Well let's be sure we take this into consideration right? I am new to the hobby too, and it can be a pretty lofty idea to just run out and get all the hardware, software, and peripheral stuff right off the hop.
So your points...
1)Don't waste your money on an iPad. If you can't get by with your...
