    Guitar recording issues

I personally don't like any "live room' sound in my rhythm guitar tracks... I guess it's personal preference - but that's probably due to the fact that as I do 4 to 6 rhythm tracks, any hint of 'verb tends to muddy things up.

    Fruity Loops Sample Question

Been there done that! hehehe Isn't it great to rip the system off instead of it ripping you off for a change. I've made some of the samples into zip files ages ago and made them available to everyone... https://homerecording.com/ubb/Forum24/HTML/000042.html ...and here are some non-ddrums...

    Guitar recording issues

What you could do is build like a tent from heavy sheets to enclose the amp and the mic...that'd give you a fairly dead environment to record in.

Does Rode make a stereo condenser mike

Hot Rocks... never used them but I doubt you could get a matched pair. James HE... you know how there's been quite a bit of talk here lately about inconsistancies in some NT1's...well the idea of having a matched pair is to overcome such inconsistancies... it doesn't really have anything to do...

Does Rode make a stereo condenser mike

No they don't. Your best bet is to buy a matched pair of small diaphragm condensors and use those as overheads - this option would certainly be the a lot more versatile then buying a stereo mic.

    Studio headphones

Everyone has their own favs... as you'll soon see... if you do a search on headphones you'll get your answers... if you can't be bothered then my vote goes for Sony MDR7506's.

    Guitar recording issues

Firstly what's the quality of your monitoring/playback system? What I'd do is crank your amp, stick the SM57 about 1/2 inch in front of the speaker grill just slightly off axis and record at least 4 different rhythm guitar tracks. If you are a really tight rhythm player then do 6 individually...

    Which shotgun?

Any Smith and Wesson would do... hehehe :D I don;t anything about shotgun mics, but how about the small lapel mics that would clip onto clothing... would that give her stage fright?

What gear to I need to learn playing guitar the death/black metal way?

If at all possible try and get a guitar that has humbucker in the neck position. A single coil (which is what will probably be on the Squier Strat) just won't cut it.

    that warm acoustic sound

Brett, when I set the mic up, it was a similar distance to what you said but pointed around the 12th fret area.

    MIC THE AMPS?

You certainly don't need to mic drums cos they'll be plenty loud. If your amps can go loud enough to match the drums then you won't need to mic those either. However you will need a PA to run vocals... there's no other way around it.

    RODE NT1

Doc... I guess what I was actually trying to find out is do you use them on a particular instrument - eg acosutic guitars... or as I know you you have two Rodents, use them to stereo mic the whole performance? If the latter, where do you position them with respect to the crowd and then band?

    THC

Every song sounds better and better! Great move putting the string sections in... they are not overpowering but just round off the sound really well. Great job on the backing vocals in the chorus as well, they were tucked away in the mix there and I didn't hear them the first few times I...

    RODE NT1

I would seriously consider taking the NT1 back to the store where you got it from and show them the small difference between it and the SM57. There really should be much more than a just a "tad fuller" sound with the NT1.
