    drum micing

Well if you haven't got enough snare then the only option is to mic the snare and have only one overhead... if you are limited to two drums tracks then there's not a lot you can do I guess BUT you could buy a small 4 channel mixer and run 3 or 4 mics into that, then take the stereo line out of...

where do I go from here??

I think a POD would be a great addition... if you are recording demos for bands then I'm guessing some of these bands won't have geat gear - because of a POD's versatility in dialling up practically any guitar tone I'm sure it'd come in handy.

    Drum Tracks/Retarded Drummer

You can program your own drums using Fruity Loops - http://www.fruityloops.com Basically it uses wav files of individual drum hits - you tell it where you want each hit to go and your done.

    Cables

Can't be done! I'm guessing the bare copper one is the shield??? is it braided around the outside of the white covered one? For XLR the shield goes to one pin and then there's another 2 wires that got to the other two pins... with a standard guitar cable your a wire short dude!

    Sample rate problem

I've got a wav file I downloaded off the net that I want to incorporate into something I'm working on... the problem is it's only at 8012 Hz. I had to edit it a bit in Sound Forge which is fine but when I go to save it it only gives me the option of saving it at 8012 Hz ...this is the problem...

First one, you guys be gentle, need input

Cool tune man... any chance of a quick run down on your gear you used to record it? That was some tasty lead playing and a great vocal hook on the chorus! I think everyone else had pretty much covered everything else. Teddie said your voice reminded him of someone.. to my ears and only really...

    Here's one I prepared earlier...

Thanks for taking a listen Ray J. I think the hardest thing I find about singing is I know in my head how I want to sound which unfortunately is not the way I do sound... at the moment at least. I guess I'm trying to find somewhere in the middle of the road... I think the problems of going flat...

    Recording tight heavy guitar

How many rhythm guitar tracks are you recording? Personally I need around 4-6 to get anywhere near a decent guitar sound

    Here's one I prepared earlier...

Thanks Shread... just in case anyone was interested the guitars were recorded with a cheap Behringer XM2000 mic with the pop filter removed, going through the pre's on my 424 MkII ...oh my god I can't believe I'm telling you all this! Basically I just cranked my Crate 120W 1x12 combo and stuck...

    Do-It-Yourself Cables!

It takes me longer to get that thin paper and thread stuff of the end of Canare Quad Star than it does to actually solder the wires onto the connectors! I wish there was a little tool that could do it instead of me with my clumsy fingers trying gather it all up and snip it off!

    Here's one I prepared earlier...

Thanks Emeric The drums do take a LLLOOOONNNNGGGGG time to program... but it's a labor of love really... I think it's well worth the effort. The bass is low a for reason... it's canned bass! I'm gonna re-track some of the vocal lines that I don't like this weekend and hopefully hire a bass...

    Fun with CW tempo map

That's actually pretty clever doc... I'm starting to get into the swing of these 'conceptual creations' of yours... What speed was this originally written in before you messed with the tempo... cos it's really cool when it's all fast! When you gonna crank out something on that SG of yours too?

    mp3 hosts

I just uploaded a song to Lycos encoded at 160kbps ... I don't recall seeing anywhere there was an encoding rate limit.. but there may be I don't know.

    Monitor & headphone testing

Green Hornet - at time of me posting this you had 533 posts to your name... I bet you at least 526 of those are you recommending Beyer 250's ....hehe... you must really love those headphones! :D To make it a fair and balanced discussion I think it's only fair I mention the Sony MDR7506's...

Damn... Singapore and Perth aren't that far apart... where's my CD??? It'd better come before the end of the week... mind you the last 4 or 5 CD's/videos I've had shipped in from people in the US or UK seems to get opened by customs... I don't know what they are looking for but the packages are...

    I really enjoyed this...

Yes it is a great article... no mention of ribbon or PZM mics though. Some surprises... the Peavey mic, the AKG C1000... I think opinions on this mic are a bit mixed here at the BBS... didn't you just sell yours RE? A lot of people (including myself) have either one of the Rode's so good to...

Cool Brad... if each song I write and record can result in the destruction of just one iMac, then surely the world is better place... don't you think? ;)
