Thinking about electronic drums? Read this first!!!

I was a guitar player for 30 years.... but the last 2 I have been playing on a roland v-session set at church most every sunday. (still schedule myself on guitar now and then) It is a 5000 person church with lots of quality audio. The e drums make sense because there is no glass cage...

Yeah .... It's gonna put them right in front of my forehead unless I raise the snare.

    Music - please rip apart

In "dead flowers".... it's an 83 strat playing backup..... and a 92 Les Paul playing the leads. Strat is straight into the fender, no effects. Les Paul is through a Korg effects unit.... then into the amp. Amp is miced with a 57 about 6 inches from the cabinet and just off center of...

    Music - please rip apart

See..... I think guitar is one of the easier things to record. At least it is for me. (I've been really struggling with an acoustic drum set lately) But I mic an old band master amp. 63 fender blackface. Use pre-amp effects to get the "tone" I want and then mic the amp with an sm57...

    Music - please rip apart

I listened to all of them. Liked Stranded the best. But I was really hearing it for what it could be. That song is screaming for some "edge". Nice cutting guitar leads between vocal lines. Blues but with distortion. And a vocal with an edge. With some intensity. But I'm s sucker...

electronic drum question...let the battle begin!

I use a Roland v-sessions at church. I have seen it get settings in it that we could not clear out. You could copy new drums or whatever from a patch that was just fine and it would still be bad in the patch you copied it to. The reset to factory is what I had to do to fix it. After...

    Paging Track Rat

Thanks Bulls..... Track.... I do have a few LD condensors. I can put a C-1 in front of it easy enough. I'm at work this morning and I don't know the exact distance on the 81's. I have moved them around a few times. The tom mics are about 5 inches off the heads. Thanks for listening.

    Paging Track Rat

Thanks very much. I've been playing on a TD-7 and a roland v-session at church for a few years now. Bought this accoustic set and it's a different animal as you know. Especially recording it. I'm off to guitar center tomorrow. I really appreciate your help.

    Paging Track Rat

Yeah..... I was just reading on the thread about drum heads. To be honest... this set is about a year old and has the pearl heads on it that it came with. (I'm ashamed to say) I'm foremost a guitar player.... so I'm still learning some of the drum stuff. I'm thinking a set of coated...

    Paging Track Rat

Thanks for the input. The toms are the part that bugs me too. I don't think they sound that bad live..... but maybe they do. Maybe listening to them is different than listening while playing. If a couple of new heads can get the sound I'm looking for.... then that's an easy very...

    Paging Track Rat

Hey track..... would you do me a favor and listen to a couple of minutes of a test drum mp3. And tell me what I need to do to them to make them better? Pearl export. 2 sm81's on top. 57 on snare and two 57s on two mounted toms. Floor tom not tight miced. Beta 52 in kick. No...

yet...still more (banjo crap!) A mix of JIM

You're probably right. It sounds like a keyboard doing a banjo to me.

yet...still more (banjo crap!) A mix of JIM

Here's my 2 cents..... and I'm not a keyboard player. I mean for me to turn out a decent organ track I have to record it twice (once with each hand). But the problem with most keyboard tracks that are doing a banjo or a guitar is that notes aren't combined the way the string instrument...

ok, you guys want my links, here they are, have a field day

most of your instruments sound virtual anyway, [p] The tone is not good on the guitars... and they aren't in tune. But worse than that... the person playing plays leads like a 9 year old first year student.

    I need help recording drums

Thanks Track. I'll back the mics off a bit cause I've got them about 2 inches off the head. And if necessary try a dead ringer. I dont' think tuning is a problem with them..... I guess it could be.... but they sound real good live. Probably is mic position.
