    Methods- Marginally Off Topic

Good stuff for everyone here! One thing though..its meant to be like a guide for newbies..and while most are giving great suggestions, the details arent there. For instance... Sluice-- The point you made about making eq cuts for instruments to fit in nicer etc is great advice..and makes sense...

    Value of Souncards

Kevin..Tmix answered well. I did notice a much my sound has a much clearer and enhanced sound when i went to the Audiophile over the Soundblaster..well worth the money. As far as mics go..i used to use a SHure bg 2.1 which is a dynamic mic and got ok results. I now use a Studio Projects B1...

Need help to mix a heavy chorus..volunteers?

Pedullist- If you keep listening there is a second chorus without vocals so you could make something up there. Sluice- I have brought up the "i lost my head' bit..i also have to delete the drums under that bit..i want silence. Ahh the guitar solo...funny story..i borrowed a mates wah and i...

    Methods- Marginally Off Topic

My ears are awaiting Pedullist! Sluice-- You mentioned a while back you use Drums from hell for your drums..are they just samples? WOuld they be able to be used in say Fruityloops? They sound very full and uh..real and i'm been trying for ages to find something like that. Just listen to MY...

Need help to mix a heavy chorus..volunteers?

Gidge- When you say about guitars being panned all the way..do you mean all guitars or just the chorus? I will do some eq'ing on the guitars..in the chorus there are 4 guitars and yeah..maybe rolling off some lows might unblock it up a bit. Pedullist-...

    Value of Souncards

tmix is right..the soundcard plays a big part in the quality of your recording..but the biggest difference is whats in front of it. You will see people having nice recordings on a SBlive but they have excellent mics and the skills to use them, this helps. I used an Audigy for a while and while i...

I feel stupid asking this, but...

You can plug your mic straight into your soundcard but yeah..its not the best way to go..i did it for a year and got 'ok' results but having a mixer is a no-brainer...use it! Track with headphones so you can hear exactly what your putting in and use a simple hi-fi to mix. Your big speakers wont...

    "The Passing" (2003 Collector's Edition)

Sluice..you've probably done this before but i'm very interested in your processes for recording. The sound you get is phenominal and i'm keen to see if its from the external gear you use or from mixing after the tracking. I'm interested in what you think you do that makes your recordings sound...

Thanks heaps for the suggestions guys. I think i'll definately get one...i'm sure i'll notice a huge difference compared to my mixer. JD--I am looking into a compressor too so i'll check out FMR for sure..i'm dabbling in the software compression until i get my head around it and then i'll jump in.!

    "The Passing" (2003 Collector's Edition)

Two words...awesome imaging! I love this mix Tom..everything just spins around your head, and with your eyes closed you can just drift off into a better place. The vocals sound fine too me, definately not too loud but i'm using headphones and speakers tend to bring them up a notch. To me, its...

Need help to mix a heavy chorus..volunteers?

I'm working on a new song and am really happy with how its turning out but i'm stuck on the chorus. Basically i've got a few guitars going and i cant get it not to sound muddy. I'm having trouble with getting a good vocal line for it too. So if anyone is willing to give me hand to clean it up a...

First post in the clinic...here we go

Ahh black sabbath..if they cant get you playing who can! Although..it seems strange to me..but out of all the bands i was brought up on and listen to..my music doesnt seem to be influenced by them. Maybe sub-consiencely i'm taking little ideas from here and there but out of all the songs i write...
