I think the "Yo, you need help" opener would have sealed it for me. Is that honestly how he spoke?

Agreed, and ideally, a cable with both braid and foil.

Making Cables - Balanced vs Unbalanced

Don't tell me, you eat oatmeal with skimmed milk at 7:45 every morning, even Sundays. If I'm using balanced equipment, I'd like to use a 'balanced' cable, thanks. It's a lot easier to say, and saves a hell of a lot of time. Giving me an XLR cable doesn't mean it isn't unbalanced configured...

    headphone amp help

I just use a stereo out of the mixer into the headphone distributer, using the mixer to get a headphone mix, and perhaps use the mixer's direct outs (or a coupla aux sends or so) to send 'more me' signal to the channels that may need them on the headphone distributer.

    VTB-1 Insane Input, No Output

If the input's showing max and you can't get zilch at output, it sounds like a repair job. You don't have both XLR and 1/4 connected at the same time do you?

Making Cables - Balanced vs Unbalanced

I agree that for home studio purposes, unbalanced is usually fine (and certain people even argue it is sonically superior), and using XLRs in unbalanced configuration is fine, since it's the connector type itself that dictates, but there is NO point in using TRS connectors in unbalanced config...

    Solved Weird acoustic song

I agree, nice sounding guitar, very little boxiness and balanced. I ALWAYS struggle with acoustic, even in a mix, but especially on its own. A little hissy, if I dare say so... What was the mic/recording chain?

    samson vs. behringer

Samson S.Phone headphone distributer. $120. 4 channels, each channel having two optional outs (so effectively 12 outs), EQ for each channel, a blend feature that allows you to customise each individual performers 'phone mix, plenty of drive, accurate metering... Kick ass. Reliable? I dunno...

    SOUNDCRAFT 6000 (24) vs MACKIE VLZ 1604?

Wow, this is a very old thread indeed! Still, for the record, the Soundcraft 6000 still resides in the studio and is the best purchase I ever made. I've learned to do a ton of things on it, and what appeared complicated to begin with (compared to the Mackie) is actually a lot more...
