Might I remind those who claim that instrumentals aren't songs that, in music theory, melodies assigned to instruments are called "voices." Instruments sing just like people -- it's all music and it's all song.
Heh. Not to take this too far off topic, but I have a pair of Smaller Advents that I bought in 1976 and I use as main speakers on my home theater. You'll get my Smaller Advents when you pry them from my cold dead hands. :)
Windows 7 isn't a problem. 6 GB is, however, and the i3 is not great. One other factor is the HDD -- slow spindle speed won't help, either.
It all comes down to what you want to do. If you're doing light tracking and mixing, it should be fine. If you're planning on huge multi-track sessions...
Well, you already have half of what you need for decent recording -- you have a computer. All you need is a reasonable audio interface, which can be had for the same price as the H4N. You also need a DAW (software for a Digital Audio Workstation) -- there are free and very inexpensive ones...
I agree that it's embarrassing. I'm just going to ignore him.
I think, to an extent, you're talking about two separate things. A good hook is both lyrical and musical. However, really good melody can make up for a world of bad lyrics. I think, though, the latter is truer in the pop world...
That's right -- you don't. You seem to think a hook is the same as a song title (notwithstanding your grammatical and spelling errors).
There was no debate. For there to be a debate, it takes someone on each side who knows what he's talking about. You clearly don't.
By the way, is...
Perhaps you should spend some time going through the posts on HR before telling everyone what people here think.
Indeed they do, but that is NOT the meaning of "hook" in the context of lyrics. Perhaps you should read the OP's post again, because he clearly DOES understand the meaning of "hook"...
Gee, what a pleasant start for your first post here.
Of course it is. What's your point?
I don't think you understand the meaning of "hook" in the context of song-writing. "Hook" is a writing technique. "Commercialism" (not "commerciality") is a goal. That writers who want commercial success...
Well, again, I write for musical theater so I'm probably off in a (very lonely) niche by myself here on HR. Songs in musical theater work very differently than in other genres -- they have to advance the action, fit the character, have their own through-line and their own arc. For music...
Yep. Broke my heart to trash the XT, but my wife wouldn't let me start a museum. :)
I rely on Win 7's system restore. The problem isn't so much installing crap as the registry getting bloated and lots of unnecessary junk getting loaded.
I didn't explain myself very well. My home has a gigabit...
My system uses 4 drives, both internal for the editing computer and for the two LAN NASes.
In the pre-video game days, both computer manufacturers and Microsoft made the mistake of assuming that home systems should be simpler and less powerful than business systems. Exactly the opposite is...
Thanks, RawDepth and DM60 -- some interesting ideas.
A couple of points unique to my situation:
1. Why RAID 5 rather than a single smaller drive: There are a few reasons. First, I'm writing a musical and I tend to work on multiple songs from the show in a given mixing session. For example...
I would if my interface would support it. :)
Okay, this is just my thinking and I'm not an engineer or recording professional. Two words: rounding errors.
2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 10
2.1 + 2.3 + 2.2 + 2.1 + 2.3 = 11
For some of what I'm working on, I have to do tons of corrections of various kinds...
