    To Dry Sounding

to dry or not to dry, that is the question. ..... That didn't even really make sense, but I thought it initially sounded clever. Anyways, sometimes when Marshall says "valvestate" they mean "in no way is this amp a valvestate amplifier at all." I have one that says "valvestate" on it, and turns...

Anyone else not like the sound of completely new strings?

I find strings, when first played, straight out of the box, sound kind of thin and tinny. I find that once I "break them in" so they are now "broken in," yet still new strings, they sound the best. Does anyone else share my feelings? I know that lots of people like the fresh brightness of...

    can anyone recommend?

thank you very much. Just remembered I already have Kjaerhus Classic Limiter! and REAcomp since I have REAPER. I'll try out the Waves rip-off too, I've heard some great things about it.

    can anyone recommend?

any free of very cheap mastering plugins such as limiters or compressors (not looking for eq) that people have found useful? I've never seriously tried to master my own songs, but I have enough time and interest now to want to venture into this new area, and would like to start out with...

    copyright question

I used to be totally on top of all this stuff. When I released my album, I got each song individually copyrighted. Had something to do with if my cd was "published," they had to all be individually copyrighted. Can anyone shed some light on this? If I wanted to register 10 songs as "one work"...

    MXL v67g & SM57: Great Results! (mp3 inside)

Yes I've noticed that too. Especially at around 3:10ish I think, there's a really noticable clip.

    Is a pre-amp really necessary?

I think the preamp is definitely the heart of the studio. You can get away using a 25 dollar mic and get great results, you cannot, however use a 25 dollar preamp and get anything decent. The combination of the mic, the preamp, and the environment you're recording in is what makes or breaks...

    Graphic EQ: A Joke?

I've always heard people bashing graphic eq, but never payed much mind. So I continued using the free graphic eq plugin I downloaded. Then a little bit ago a friend gave me Sonar 5. Compared to REAPER I didn't like it, so never gave it a second thought. But when installing it, it also installed...

    MXL v67g & SM57: Great Results! (mp3 inside)

Thank you everyone for your comments and suggestions, Coolcat, I appreciate your suggestions too; this song actually isn't mine or preformed by me, I only recorded it. My friend is releasing a free EP funded by the money he got from cd sales from his first release, and I told him I'd be honored...

    MXL v67g & SM57: Great Results! (mp3 inside)

I would like to share with everyone a song that a friend and I recorded yesterday in my livingroom. This is the first time I've used my newish equipment to record something serious, not just a demo, and am very excited and pleased with the results of my VERY modest setup! Here's what was used to...

Does it matter what strings you use?

thanks everyone. I don't know if my guitar is meant to use light or med. Here's the specs http://www.johnsongtr.com/fileadmin/Johnson/Detail_Spec/JG-620-C.html there isn't anything on there that tells me.

Does it matter what strings you use?

I'm not talking about brand, but what guage. I finally found the perfect way to record my acoustic guitar (mxl v67g ~18 in. from 15th fret>fmr rnp>audiophile 192>reaper) And it sounds really good. Good as in accurate. When I listened to what I had recorded, it sounded great, but a little thin. I...

    I get nervous

when I record. I haven't done any serious recordings for nearly 10 months, so perhaps I'm just not used to it?? I do plenty of demos in my room, and those are super fun. But when I try doing a serious recording, I get nervous and mess up no matter what. I think I've discovered why and what to...

    MXL v67g or Studio Projects-C1

Hey man, good to hear from you and thanks for the help! Lots of people don't seem to think the C1 is good on male vox. Lots of the stuff I do is falsetto. Does that change anything?

    ADK Hamburg

I used to own a pair, they sounded excellent on pretty much everything, male vox, acoustic guitar, accordion, and was amazing on grand piano As Harvey said though, it is a tad dark, I did find that I had to boost some high's to make most things sound to the best of it's potential.

    MXL v67g or Studio Projects-C1

I've been listening to clips of the v67g and comparing them to other mics in it's price range at http://www.thelisteningsessions.com I think the v67g sounds good, but compared to the Studio Projects C1, it didn't sound as full. I record mostly acoustic guitar and dude vox. I would appreciate...
